Probably not, the real Marilyn Monroe has been dead for many years. Otherwise they might be considerably more similar I'm guessing.

not at all. but you could still make a painting of marilyn monroe and it would probably be well recieved. seriously just draw a picture of marilyn monroe, if its at all good people will flock to it.

...Ty Warner, who made billions when demand exploded for his Beanie Babies in the 1990s, was charged Wednesday with federal tax evasion, accused of failing to report more than $3 million he earned in a secret offshore account.
Warner, 69, has agreed to plead guilty and will pay a civil penalty of $53.6 million, his lawyer, George Scandaglia, said in a statement.
"This is an unfortunate situation that Mr. Warner has been trying to resolve for several years now," Scandaglia said. "Mr. Warner accepts full responsibility for his actions with this plea agreement."
Warner, ranked 209th on Forbes Magazine's list of richest Americans with an estimated worth of $2.6 billion, generally sold his Beanie Babies for less than $10. At the peak of their popularity in the 1990s, resale of some favored versions could draw several times their retail value.

if you were fabulously wealthy you would have to actually think hard about what to spend your money on, and fine art is a pretty good choice (i suppose)

I'd say the guy cutting his penis off for $1 million is more bizarre. The history books would never forget someone that did something like that, I would be immortilized as "That dude that made it rain dicks on his enemy". People would write songs about me 1000 years from now.

Day 11:
Greek Fire:
When it was invented in 673, greek fire, a napalm like substance was the pinnacle of warfare technology. Invented by the Byzantines, this substance would stick to any surface, spontaneously ignite, and ferociously burn even on water. This "liquid fire" was pumped into tubes, then siphoned onto the enemies ships. Below is a historical source of this powerful military technology in action.

The Byzantines used their greek fire to defend against legions of invading Arabs. This weapon so so effective that in 678, greek fire took the lives of over 30,000 muslims in one single confrontation. Greek fire defended the Byzantines against the muslims time and time again so much so that it began to develop a bit of a name for itself. As time went on, legends of the weapon became so widespread that so the very appearance of a tube would force the enemies to retreat.
The Byzantines guarded their secrete very carefully not wanting their advantage to fall into the wrong hands. But shortly after an encounter with the Muslims in 718, the formula to greek fire had been lost. And not one single person in all of Byzantium was able to recreate the formula, eventually leading to the decline of the empire. The strange thing is, the chemical make up of greek fire is still unknown today. Scientists and historians have tried time and time again to uncover the mystery of greek fire, but it seems still to this day we can not make a "liquid fire" as power as the Byzantines did in 673.

Well I'd pay up to maybe $400, the last art gallery I went to everything was going for $200 and any painting would have well been worth the cost. $1000 is pushing it though I don't care if its an original Monet
To each their own though

Day 12:
Franklin's Pirates:

The year is 1778, and the American colonies are in the middle of their revolution. Benjamin Franklin, one of the key figures of the revolution, is continuously receiving letters from American prisoners in England. These letters tell of hundreds of American prisoners being held in England, not only that, but these prisoners were being horribly treated and being fed the very minimum. These letters naturally upset Franklin who decided to negotiate a one to one prisoner exchange with England. There was just one problem, the colonist only had a had full of prisoners compared to the 100s held by the British.
Fast forward to Dublin Ireland, where smuggler captain Luke Ryan and his crew wait in their cells to be hung. Only during the night, the captain Luke Ryan some how managers to not only spring himself from jail, but also half of his crew. Not only this, but these smugglers successfully slip right past the British guards and steal back their ship from where it had been impounded and sail stealthily away into the sea. Luke Ryan is now faced with some tough decisions, there is no turning back to England, and a life on the run didn't sound too appetizing either. So Ryan proposes to his crew that they sail down to France (Americas ally in revolution) and attempt to obtain a privateering contract.
News of this eventually reaches Franklin who reluctantly commissions Ryan and his crew to hunt for British prisoners for Franklin to exchange. The French outfit Ryan with a boat called "The Black Prince" which serves as the perfect ship to get the job done. The Black Prince would fly at first a British flag, then pull up along side the British ship and fire a warning shop. At which point they would promptly bring down the British flag and replace it with an American flag then board the ship. This technique proved to be very successful within the first week commissioned the Prince boarded 7 ships and obtained 35 prisoners. When news of the first weeks success reaches Franklin he commissions two more ships, the Black Princess, and the Fearnot.
Although there is one problem. The Black Prince hardly had enough room for its crew let alone 35 extra prisoners. So of those first 35 prisoners Ryan let 14 go leaving only 21 on board captured. But this is just the beginning of where Franklin and his pirates views differ. Ryan starts to use what are called parole slips in a effort to decrease the number of men on his ship he has to find room for and keep fed. Essentially all that these slips meant was that ryan can captured this person, gotten their signature, then let them go. As you might expect these parole slips were useless to Franklin. As time went on it became more and more clear that Franklins Pirate fleet was much more interested in capturing wealth then they were prisoners. So in 1780 Franklin fired his pirates, if you wanna know more about this cool chapter of the American Revolution, there is a really cool documentary by national geographic on netflix.
