Going to new zealand!

So, after asking the shroomery collective what I should do with my life (here), I went and worked on a small vegetable garden for 6 months and found that I loved it! Working outside, doing work that I'm proud of, actually seeing the fruits of my labor, and making a small impact on a community just really make me happy to do this.
So now that its going to be wintertime, I've decided to get a working holiday visa (done) and go to New Zealand (flight leaves in a couple weeks) to continue to gain more experience before going out and starting a market garden on my own. So what say you shroomery about New Zealand? Any advice out there? Places I HAVE to see while i'm there, anyone who has wwoof'ed there want to chime in, what area I should look to work in, etc. are all welcomed. Thank you so much for the small amount of advice on where to take my life, I truly am grateful and glad that I posted here looking for advice as every other source was leading me to dead ends/things I don't think would have made me happy in life!

i have gone to New Zealand before, only for 4 days though. (i live in australia so its only a stones throw away anyways). i spent this time in Queenstown and let me tell you its an absolutely awesome place man. Queenstown is very laid back and good place to party with some great people, and its surrounded by beautiful mountains and lakes. Only thing is since its a travel hotspot during the high season it can be expensive and will no doubt be packed with everyman and his dog during this time, but it should be quite mellowed out during low season with all the tourists gone and only backpackers left . Can't really tell you much more then that since i spent the whole time bungy jumping and drinking as for the things that you must do when your over there: Bungy jump (preferably the nevis bungy=134m=scary shit) its well worth it. and going to Fergburger is an absolute must, imagine the most delicious burger possible, its at the Fergburger, my mouth is watering just thinking about it....
As for the rest of New Zealand i have no idea but im sure its all pretty awesome, theres some really good fishing there too.
sorry i dont exactly have much more advice then that but its better then nothing.

Your positive aura is delightful! Props and respect to you.
I know Auckland is a center for a lot there and I don't think you'd be able to have fully experienced what NZ is if you don't make that part of your visit.
Also, the user Infinity's Minute (may be spaces, may not be, may have numbers or other garnish, but that's his essential name) on here is from NZ and may be able to give you a local's input and expertise. Why don't you PM him and see?

I spent a week in New Zealand a few years ago... Started out in Auckland, which is just like any average city really.. wasn't too exciting there, but then again I was underage so I suppose I didn't get to experience everything it had to offer.
Also spent a few days at Rotorua which I found to be a lot more enjoyable. The hot springs, mud pools and geysers were all really great.

I heard New-Zealand do have some ecovillages that are funded according to the principles of permaculture.
If i was you i'd try to get some experience working in one (or more!) of those eco-villages. The people there will teach you about the place where they live and can surely help you make a list of the interesting spots that only a local can know.
You can also see and learn the aways to nurture merino sheeps which produce awesome wool

Anyway, im sure you will end enjoying your trip!
