FTL isn't possible, light speed is the ultimate limit and only massless particles can go that speed
but you can accelerate particles with mass to 99.9999% light speed or so iirc (just requires -huge- amounts of energy, cern i.e.)
if you were gonna travel interstellar it would probably be into the mind (with lucid dreaming you can go anywhere, instantly i.e.)
because the universe extends from your mind
I think it is interesting we can send a signal to the end of the universe with the ultimate speed, lightspeed, with just a 9V battery, some copperwire(coil), and a contact... that's a telegraph...
but travelling to the moon requires huge ressources
probably because we have to move huge amounts of energy, our bodies contain a lot of energy e=mc**2 , so the energy of a 100kg human boody is 100*3*10**8 J = 3*10^10 Joule , a huge amount of energy you have to move + the energy of the spacecraft too (the universe will try to prevent you from moving your energy, inertia)
to send a signal you hardly have to move any energy (only 1 photon... and it's massless)
I like to think about that from time to time, find it interesting that it is so easy to send a signal to the other side of the universe with lightspeed
sometimes I wonder how magnetism work in vacuum too, it's magic.... invisible energy penetrating space and how the conversion from electrical to magnetic energy works in nature... you send current in a wire, and nature creates a magnetic field for you , and an energywave that travels to the other side of the universe with lightspeed
annode-cathode setups are pretty interesting too, you can make xrays, gamma rays, visible light with them , depending on the matter between them (usually vacuum) and the voltage
the interesting thing about electromagnetic waves is they all move at light speed... light, radiowaves, xrays, gamma rays, uvlight, infrared light etc. I think magnetism works at light speed too
nature somehow likes electromagnetic waves, since they move at the ultimate speed
projecting our consciousness is probably a cheaper way of travelling, doesn't require much energy to move ? I'd like a device that gives me lucid dreams on command, you can do anything there

Not saying it is - but let me remind you that only 600 years ago it was thought the world was flat. And I'm certain, someone "well educated and sound in their thinking" then would swear to "god and country" that it was not possible for it not to be so.
Certainly if there are beings elsewhere far more intelligent and spiritual than humans - you have to accept the possibility that they have discovered how to create FTL tech.
Einstein's findings are sound in our modern time and sure you can't contradict them - however, then again Einstein didn't make the universe so who knows what secrets are yet to be discovered.
As Arthur Stanaley Eddington (someone who lived and breathed empirical science once in the field of astrophysics) stated: "Not only is the universe stranger than we imagine, it is stranger than we can imagine"

Let me remind you that 600 years ago, there were a lot of people who thought that the world was not flat, for instance anyone that lived in a coastal fishing community. There's even a wiki page for this nonsense.

If you could go faster than light you could reverse time, and effect would precede cause
according to einstein :-)
E=mc**2=1/sqrt(1-v**2/c**2)m * c**2 (relativistic mass)
lets approximate that to v=c , a mass moving at light speed
E=1/0 *m * c**2 ---> goes to infinity/undefined
so it requires infinite energy / it all blows up if you go at light speed
only if you are massless can you go light speed
not sure it's the best way to prove it though.. if you go over light speed, you will reverse time, your clock will start to tick backwards instead of go slower
time dilation is given by dt=t'-t/sqrt(1-v**2/c**2) , dt is time measured by outside observer
lets say ẗ́'=2, t=1 (1 sec between 2 events in your reference frame, and v>>c) dt ~ 1/sqrt(-v**2)
that doesn't work either.. can't take sqrt of something negative, unless you want imaginary time, then you could get dt ~ 1/sqrt(-v**2) ~ 1/i*v (since i**2 = -1)
the only thing I know of that seems to be travelling FTL seems to be quantum nonlocality , ' spooky action at a distance' like einstein called it 2 particles apparently act instantaneously at a distance if entangled but they can't transmit information FTL iirc, only the state , don't remember the details (everything in the universe seems to be connected)

Assuming i would look like humans, I would dwell among them for a while, try to understand why we have created this horrible way of life. And I would search for some humans that were worth saving from this nasty parasitic society that has dominated the world. Then I would give the other humans a chance to change. An open declaration. Change, live as one with the life of your planet, nourish it as it nourishes you, sustain it as it is struggling to sustain you. You filthy creatures! You have 5 years to turn this planet around before my highly evolved race of space travelers removes your miserable exsistance from the concept of life. Good luck and may truth forever guide you.

I never said that everyone 600 years ago thought the world was flat. Most refer this mentality to western people during this time.

And yes yes and yes - according to "modern" thinking. Who knows what the equations will say in 10,000 years - capiche?

It's a myth, pretty much nobody in the west then, thought the world was flat, using this example to bolster what you said doesn't, it weakens what you said.

I see your implication falcon, but one cannot judge what they don't know based off past scenarios. All we can do is speculate until it is proven possible or impossible by actual testingg

With the same math physicist come up with a plethora of theoretical dimensions.

No, where you are wrong is to assume everyone (if we assume "everyone" = as you said "pretty much nobody") in those times believed that the earth was not flat. First off, you are using wikipedia as your primary source (as it appears) and anyone with due credence would not take wikipedia with much authority in most subject matters.
What you wanted to note was that it was "scholars" within the western sphere that did not feel the earth was flat, however the common folk in those times - certainly was a different picture. I would challenge you now to put forth evidence proving otherwise for the common/everyday folk of this period - utilizing scholarly or well acclaimed material/sources form recognized institutions and intellectual authorities.
The fact that my claim about scholars holds up to even your "wikipedia source" - suggests you would need to prove otherwise at this point - beyond simply wikipedia. I believe this is an accurate and honest assessment of what you now need to do.
As such, the fact that you are not precise (covering all bases) in your allegations - weakens your credence for current and future notions on this topic.
Mind you - this topic, regarding whether western scholars/well educated people in this region believed if the earth was flat is still moderatly debated amongst a good number of thinkers.

Oh yeah, those common folk were complete idiots, didn't know anybody that had sailed on a ship. Why the crews that sailed were just picked from scholars, or peasants that had no friends or family. Stupid, stupid peasants, never talked to anyone with any book learning.
