I want to buy one of these things. if any one is not familiar, you can read about it here http://www.raspberrypi.org/
essntially its a linux computer, with a HDMI output for $35.
what i want to know, from anyone who knows about these computers, is what else I would need to purchase along with it to make it work for me. all i want to do is have it plugged into my tv and run a wireless mouse and keyboard to it to watch netflix, and facebook, email etc.
so any advice would be appreciated.

I am familiar. I am an Android app developer, and several of my apps have downloadable content, which I host on Raspberry pi http file servers. They are pretty sweet.

also, what is the deal with the power supply?

My partner in Utah actually physically has the things and sets them up. If you make a full list of questions, I will be happy to send them his way and get back to you via PM within a couple of days.

So what would it take, cost, to run some raspberry pi system to play SD video to a sd tv. I was thinking of buying another used nintendo wii to play old tv shows on an old sd tv. It worked fin on a test, but the media player wasn;t the best.
Would a pi be a better option?

Converting HDMI to DVI to VGA isn't gonna be much cheaper than a wii, if at all.

Well gues I do figure I can get another wii for about a 100 bucks, that would hopefully include the newer controllers needed for the motion plus or what ever they call that...
Just don't know.

Raspberry Pi ~40$ composite cable 0-5$ headphone jack to composite sound (easy to make)0-5$
That doesn't include the power supply ~5$ or the sd card and that depends on if you want to use that to store video or use a server or an external hard drive

Well the wii and a usb HD is pretty damn silent. Wii hardware is limited to 480p or 576i

I say snag one man. They pretty cool. I got 2 of them. I made one a Media Box that connects to a shared drive on my network and streams videos/music. The other I was originally planning on making a Pipboy 3000 but part way through designing the software for the interface I got a little overburdened at work and since them have snagged some other toys that have been keeping me from going back to it. I'll probably end up using it for something else entirely, Lol.
As far as what additional accessories you need: really a power cable, usb keyboard and mouse (you can snag cheap ones from amazon/newegg) and an SD card to get started. There are a lot of cool extras but you can always get those later. I would also look around and see what other people are doing to get ideas.
Also don't expect a lightening fast machine, its pretty basic, but for 35 bucks definately worth it.
What are your goals? Do you want to learn to program? Or do you just want something to toy with?

I sent away for a couple of these and got them this week. A friend's kid is interested in learning programming and I got one for myself as well for the hell of it. They are the most basic models available (model A+), $25 and no ethernet or composite video. Apparently the power consumption is lower than the better models though.
Maybe I'll get a better one later, composite gives some cheaper options for mobile displays. I found one site that has a head mounted display built into some sunglasses for about $100.
