Does it smell funny? Has the growth stalled? Do you have a filter on the lid allowing GE?

i don't really have great sense of smell, but i don't smell anything gross. no stalling, it's actually colonized pretty quickly. yes, i have polyfil for GE. it wasn't fully colonized yesterday, maybe it's still finishing up? it just seems weird for everything to be colonized but that one spot

If the growth hasn't stopped, it's probably just finishing up. Patience is a virtue, or so I've heard. Doesn't look like you shook it during colonization... I've been shaking at 50% or so and it speeds up the process big time. Give that a shot on your next one.

awesome, thanks guys! also another question. i think i might have cobweb but not positive. the jar pictured i definitely think has cobweb, but i noticed the same type of growth on 1 or 2 milo grains in another jar...i think i know exactly what caused it, too. when i PC'd my jars, i put the lids on regularly instead of upsidedown, so when they opened, they sucked in a bit of air, despite having polyfil in the lid.
i'm definitely tossing this jar, but i'm going to bring it outside and give it a wiff anyways before throwing it in the trash

That's not cobweb. Cobweb is not that thick and moves extremely fast.
Looks like mycelium just breaching the edges of the jar from the center.

I agree it may be mold, but I've seen plenty of healthy mycelium look like that as it crawls to the surface.
Also cobweb is crazy fast. I don't think it is cobweb, too thick of growth

That does make a lot of sense if it's breaching the surface like you said. Post pictures of it in 3-4 days! And yea cob web is crazy fast.

i think you may be right frank...i tipped the jar a bit, and grains were stuck together with the light fuzz. i'm not too versed in the characteristics of contams, but i don't think cobweb would be strong enough to clump grains together?
