Russula albidula perhaps. Chanterelles are easy to distinguish, they don't have gills, instead they have shallow vein like "false gills".
Lactarius is a good guess, does it produce milky stuff from it's gills?

I think Timethyl and Blue Funguy are correct that this is Lactarius.

Seems a bit early on the west coast for Russula, and latex can be scanty in Lactarius.

When I went chanterelle hunting last weekend all I could find basically was Russula and Psathyrella, they are definitely out there.

Russula brevipes. Been finding them for weeks now. As well as a few other species.
