So my ex-psychiatrist wasn't *just* open to the idea of taking me on as a Research Assistant... * 1
    #18823108 - 09/10/13 11:47 AM (10 years, 5 months ago)

In fact, he seemed to have actually been WAITING for me to get bored of drugs and be ready to do some work like this.

AND it's BETTER THAN THAT: I was hoping at best to get a research *assistant* type thing going, wherein the RA is typically there to help take care of some of the more mundane "overhead" of someones research, such as going through records to collect data or cleaning beakers.

INSTEAD, he was wanting to essentially collaborate with me as a full-on colleague researcher and wants to embark on solving a particular area of Philosophy of Science with me.

He's busy with a publication deadline on a book until October 1, after which time we will start. In the meantime, he's assigned me some fundamental reading on the particular area we're going to work on and I'm going to start on that shortly. We have a follow-up call on the 20th about this and next steps.

I'M NOW WELL ON MY WAY BACK TO BECOMING THE OLD, INTELLECTUALLY-VIGOROUS JEFF/STILLNOX that I really am, and this is huge for me :datass:

And while I come off as full of myself a lot (self-absorbed would be more accurate though), I have had a severe dearth of confidence these last two years and now with this reality and knowing I'll be able to say that my PSYCHIATRIST wanted my help on a research area, I'm starting to feel a healthy and refreshing confidence returning to me.

This is wonderful. I'm on Cloud 9 right now and am far to elated about this not to share it with my shroomery friends. :zomgzomgzomg:

I hope some of you like Masked and Dystopia will also be happy to see that I am, against odds, actually turning things around and am becoming someone useful again :awesomenod:

Oh is it, especially after going from a top software company from 17-20, then into research science from 20-22, and then landing at McDonalds. However, as many of you picked up on--especially when I'm drunk or dissociated--I can have a HUGE head/ego, or at least come across that way, and while I'm not "there" yet, I'm really grateful for my epic demise and for landing at the worlds least prestigious job. This will be healthy for my personality and help remind me to stay humble.

That's an interesting and very valid point about my life updates. This is very much a strong indicator things are getting back where they need to be, but I have developed a pattern of making positive breaks into lower lows. I'll have to make sure I don't squander this. I'm not going to buy weed anymore... that's for sure. It's just giving myself a way to screw this up if I do.

As for the rest of you, thanks so much for the good vibes, positive comments, and well wishes/encouragement. Means a lot and I love all of you fine shroomerites

You ought to come back and be a regular member, man... it's a fine season for the shroomery lately! And I appreciate your comment on me as a person... I seem to be controversial and I'm certainly something of a character, but I'm just glad to have the shroomery in my life, ya know? :feelsgoodman:

It is indeed going to be an interesting job. What has me practically titillated too is the fact that this problem in the Philosophy of Science has actually been hindering his progress on some CLINICAL problems and developments. I couldn't be more eager to delve into this and figure it out, and it will certainly be a long next couple of weeks until I get to start working with him.

GOD I CANNOT WAIT!!! Thank you, gods that be, for aligning the universe to make this possible for me.
