mycelium vs trich?
    #18822343 - 09/10/13 07:57 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

I have 12 jars of pf classic, 2 of them have a small spot of trich showing on the outerside of the brf cake, besides that all 12 have excellent mycelium growth, and mycelium growth is quick. my question is, is there any chance the faster growing mycelium can take over the trich, to the point that the trich is no longer a problem. I know the best thing to do is just dispose of it, but with only 12 half pint brf jars, 2 jars is kinda a lot.

Trichoderma is a very special fungi. It is talented.
It's enzymes are among the most powerful, its an anti-fungal fungus. No fungus will stop it; slow it down --maybe.

You know what to do.
Abandon hope, embrace logic.

The green your seeing is the trichs spores. Trich mycelium is white just like shrooms. Its possible that all your jars are infected, the trich just hasn't dropped its spores yet.

Trich. is KILLER.  I've had 3 cakes contaminate from it and I tried a different method to stop it each time.  Also each incident was an area about the size of the tip of your pinky finger (very small).

With much wasted time, I learned you can slow it down to finish a flush if ABSOLUTELY necessary.

ALL other cases.  Chuck it FAST and FAR!

Mycelium wont stand a chance.

Bury them outside and hope for the best. They're pretty much unsalvagable indoors.

you do know all contamination is not called trich?
I've seen every mold and discoloration possible be called "trich".

Post a pic, and get your jars diagnosed!

The only contamination that is "worth" attempting to repair indoors is "Cobweb mold".  Every other contamination is a game changer, and will most likely ruin your grow, and throw spores all about your grow area.  You can isolate the cakes, and attempt to get a final flush out of them, but trich moves fast.  It is simply good practice to remove anything that is not 100% correct ASAP.  Spores from unwanted pests do more than destroy the cake they are on.  They spread like fire.

Some users report applying a liberal amount of salt on the affected area.  You can knock it down with a few drops of rubbing alcohol.  I have seen a few instances where someone put a shot glass over the area.  Knowing the ultra-white look of trich before it goes green is important.  After a few grows most of us can pick it out across the room.

Either way, if it is not cobweb, its days are numbered.  Get it away from healthy cakes, or bear the consequences of a polluted grow.
