Canadian politics is in a new age (of fucked up)! We're officially a Constitutional Monarchy (which means to become a citizen you must swear fealty to the Crown), we've got a "majority government" (with only 39% voter mandate) under an ideological conservative right-wing semi-fascist-authoritarian oil-loving Prime Minister who answers to the Governor General who answers to the Queen, and the rest of our constituency is so divided, apathetic and demoralized that not enough is being done to thwart the unprecedented change being shoved down our throats. And our country's supposed new hero is this Obama-like celebrity riding to glory on waves of "hope" and "change" (and also his shiny haircut)...Quebec wants to leave us...Alberta wants us to join the United Sates...everyone has a different vision for Canada and it's all being blurred into a recipe for disaster. Or revolution.
You've probably heard one way or another that Canada is weathering the economic storm relatively well in comparison to other G8 countries. The stark reality is that VERY real issues persist in Canada with very little conversation on the resolutions
I may just be a cynical fuck on a nightshift, but this is a pretty damn accurate depiction of the mess we live in. Any other Canadian thoughts?

"Per the Canadian constitution, the responsibilities of the sovereign and/or governor general include summoning and dismissing parliament, calling elections, and appointing governments. Further, Royal Assent and the royal sign-manual are required to enact laws, letters patent, and orders in council." - MacLeod 2012, p. 16
"Oath of Citizenship: I swear (or affirm) that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of Canada and fulfil my duties as a Canadian citizen.[10]" - Public Works and Government Services Canada (2006)
Why can't the Oath be based on core Canadian values that we can all agree upon, not some distant Monarch?

The monarchy has been irrelevant for decades. They are figureheads. Get over the symbolism.
Core Canadian values? Like what?

core Canadian values is follow around like Lemmings.
it's not half bad, as more prominent countries hold much respect for trying to outdo everyone else, but... still... pretty bad.

Alberta wants us to join the United Sates ------
Why so we can pay for Detroit instead of Quebec? What advantage is there to joining the USA for Alberta? You hear very little of that talk in Alberta, its part of the whole rest of Canadas idea of what they think AB is. I have never met a vocal Alberta separatist in my life. I am pretty dissapointed in our nation of late. The police round up people at g-20 protest and people cheer them on. Other nations riot for change, we riot drunk for hockey. Canadians talk shit about how American blacks are treated, yet our Natives are not treated any better. You still need to know someone to buy pot, US medpot states have rules 100x better than health Canada's stupid exemptions. I stay because I am afraid to move and then need medical care, thats the sole reason i stay.

Lol, Canada came in a 35th fattest. America came in 9th. With a higher percentage of being obese vs just overweight.
But the G20 summit was garbage, being on the streets and seeing it first hand, and then talking to the police supporters.
I think too many Canadians are looking too much into america for values and culture.
