sgfc advice
    #18821781 - 09/10/13 02:10 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Ok so I feel like I may be doing something wrong here.  I know I messed up for the first week I kept the setup in a closet but since I have moved it to my room.  I use the correct lighting 12 on 12 off.  I have about 3 inches of perlite in the bottom.  It is raised 4 inches above the table.  I run the fan in the same room at night only so I can sleep.  Also I mist with distilled bottled water 5 times a day.  I am just wandering why all my mushrooms are so few and so small.  I have only gotten tiny fruits for some reason though.  I have been told to pick them one at a time as they mature and the first week I have only come up with 7 grams dried. any help?

Looks like you need more holes. Also, your fanning them after you spray right? And there are holes in the bottom and top? You may also need more perlite. Though a quarter dry for the first week isn't bad. Also, the fan shouldn't be pointed at the fc.

Make sure you fan them after you mist.

Size of the mushrooms can come down to genetics sometimes.

If this is from a spore syringe then the multispore genetics

can produce many different sizes. Did you let your cakes consolidate

for a week after they reached 100% colonization?

Has anybody else heard that fungi don't like distilled water? I feel like I read that somewhere, and that bottled water is ideal

I dont remember reading that anywhere. I've always just used tap water

right from the faucet.

Cool I have them dunking tonight for the second flush.  I was also considering resoaking and rinsing all of the per-lite then adding a little more in the process.  So it is a good idea to do holes in the lid as well? Also I keep the fan about 4 feet away and facing away its also only on at night when I'm in bed.  I rly need to find someone to trade or by some syringes that have good genetics. that would be sweet if you feel the urge pm me.

I think your light is too close to the chamber.
Air inside can be dry because of it, move it a bit further.
And yeah... use normal tap water.

The fans too close and yes, you need holes on ALL 6 sides of the fc, including top and bottom. Your perlite should be very wet. I spray mine untill water drips out of the bottom of the fc whenever it gets dry.

You should have holes in all 6 sides

You also shouldn't run a fan in the same room as a sgfc

Congrats on getting out of jail

I can't really see because of my monitor but do you have books or bricks elevating the chamber?  It looks like they cover over half the holes on the bottom?

If so, try to elevate them in a way that will allow airflow up through the chamber.  A SGFC works from this air coming up through the bottom.  Plus, there should be four to five inches of perlite.

It's just the light reflecting of the surface; the parts that you think are bricks are actually the open areas =)
