Is there an easy why to differentiate between a Lepiota and a Chlorophyllum (besides the green spores of Chlorophyllum molybdites)
"he name comes from Greek Chloro meaning green and phyll meaning leaves or gills".

I think they all have greenish white gills instead of the Lepiota white gills.

Maynard,
I usually see Chlorophyllum in lawns
Do you think this is Lepiota?

^this And I would say M. procera, but I've been told that it doesn't grow in the USA. I'm not sure where the OP is from, but that's still my guess.
-------------------- In ancient times, when demons roamed with man, They hunted, loved and lost, hand in hand, As time went on, the difference between them faded. You couldn't tell anymore, demons and man were related, and some would say the same, but who would like to claim? In time, Gods had even forgot, Demons, too, once love had sought. In times recent I remember, Once I was a man, In my heart I had an ember, I'll relate the best I can but it was snuffed, one distant December. And yet here I stand, no flesh, no bones, no seed or semen, All that's left is this Demon.

I apologize for the ignorance but what's the difference between Macrolepiota, Chlorophyllum and Lepiota. They kinda all look the same to me.

The pattern on the stipe. Chlorophyllum species have smooth, silky stipe, and you'll notice a 'snakeskin' pattern on the OP's mushrooms, which makes them Macrolepiota. Lepiota species are smaller and entirely different.

Thank you sir! I will try my best to remember that.

That snakeskin pattern on the stipe is what made me want to look these guys up. Aswell as what I am going to refer to as a gator skin texture on the cap, for lack of the proper term. Really a cool looking mushroom! Thanks for all the help again!

I am in northeast us, but I can read about every distinguishing characteristic from Macrolepiota procera and have it fit my find.

It's not the 'real' Macrolepiota procera, but there are several variants of this species which are now probably their own species. For all intents and purposes this can be treated like M. procera, they are edible and very good.

How's their flavor? I am most definitely going to have to try them.

Taste is an individual thing. You'll have to try them to see if they suite you. IMO they are best fried in batter, only the caps, stipes are not edible.

Thanks a ton, appreciate the answers! I'm curious what makes the stipe inedible, is it just a texture thing or does it contain something you don't want to be eating?

It's tough and stringy, of course it's not poisonous, but just not pleasant to eat.
