Well, Im going to be 100% polite with you. Tell "SWIM" to register an account here on the forums, and there will be plenty of help given. I would feel more comfortable giving info directly to that individual to make sure nothing is lost in translation.
Tell "SWIM" to read every post here. He can learn where to obtain the things needed. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/postlist.php/Board/61

Okay how do I start? I live in cali so I know I can grow them outdoors but I just need spawn. Is there anyway to obtain this online or do I have to go hunting?

You're going to need to create your own spawn... It's pretty easy, you just need some sort of grain, some jars and a spore print/syringe and that's pretty much it.
There's like infinity different teks out there - take your pick.

It is illegal to ship spores to California. You will need to obtain them yourself. No vendor/user with any sense of self preservation will ship there.
You will need to create "spawn" in a fashion that you choose. Most use wild bird seed in quart jars, pressure cooked to sterilize. Read over the forums, use the search function. There is a metric boat ton of info on the who/what/where/why/when. There is a process for every single part, from soaking grains to spawning to bulk. Too much to list here...and because it certainly can be easily searched for.

California is extremely grey on this matter. I wouldn't say it is automatically illegal to ship to CA, and I would say that if you simply put a fake return address or no return address at all, you would be very, very, very, VERY unlikely to be prosecuted for sending spores TO California.

11390. Except as otherwise authorized by law, every person who, with intent to produce a controlled substance specified in paragraph (18) or (19) of subdivision (d) of Section 11054, cultivates any spores or mycelium capable of producing mushrooms or other material which contains such a controlled substance shall be punished by imprisonment in the county jail for a period of not more than one year or in the state prison.
11391. Except as otherwise authorized by law, every person who transports, imports into this state, sells, furnishes, gives away, or offers to transport, import into this state, sell, furnish, or give away any spores or mycelium capable of producing mushrooms or other material which contain a controlled substance specified in paragraph (18) or (19) of subdivision (d) of Section 11054 for the purpose of facilitating a violation of Section 11390 shall be punished by imprisonment in the county jail for a period of not more than one year or in the state prison.
11392. Spores or mycelium capable of producing mushrooms or other material which contains psilocyn or psyoclyin may be lawfuly obtained and used for bona fide research, instruction, or analysis, if not in violation of federal law, and if the research, instruction, or analysis is approved by the Research Advisory Panel established pursuant to Sections 11480 and 11481.
In 11391, it basically says that the spores are only illegal if intended to violate 11390. I'm sure you could find vendors/users either here or elsewhere that would send to California as long as OP specifically denies any intent to cultivate said spores.

Sounds like if you don't have research approval from the Research Advisory Board, then your spores or mycelium would be unlawfully obtained.
The reputable vendors do not ship to CA for a reason. If there was a simple loophole, then they would ship there.

I was waiting to see if anyone else caught that. The rest of the 47 US States can be shipped spores in "grey area". This is not Grey in any way. The other thing that I read into, is that if you are the importer, you may be subject to state time. That is a risk no vendor or person should be taking lightly. Seems pretty black and white.

A hobbyist comparing spores under a microscope wouldn't be doing any bona fide research, instruction, or analysis, though, and therefore shouldn't need to be approved by the board.
Alan Rockefeller makes the same point I am making here, and he is always offering good advice on security issues all over the board.
I have personally sent spores to CA, and would again as long as proper safeguards were taken for both myself and the recipient.
