No no no, I'm doing my second interview with both of the jobs mentioned in the OP next week. Got emails back from both of them this week and they both want to interview me again next week.

Just called the microbiology lab for a follow up. I told her I have another job offer and her reply was "Well shit, here's the situation..." She wants to hire me, she said I have the job. Turns out that since the place she works at recently integrated with another institution, getting grant money to actually go into an account has become all kinds of fuckery and is majorly delayed. That means she doesn't have a defined start date for me.
I also have the neuroscience job opportunity, working with infants and kids. Neither of the latter are my cup of tea. But it pays more. But it also starts out part time with possibility of full time. The microbio job starts out full time, but at lower pay. I'd honestly enjoy working in that lab much more, it's just more my kinda science.
So elder shroomerites, if you were me, what would you do: higher pay starting at part time in a field you're iffy about with possibility of full time, or lower pay full-time in a field you think is awesome? Money is kinda tight for me right now (loans like a motherfucker) so it's a tough decision. If I did get promoted to full-time at the higher paying job I could live comfortably... but shitting and crying babies early in the morning. Meh.

You're young. Take the higher paying job for now. Keep looking.

Really? Not take the one that I would enjoy more?
I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with my life, and I'm pretty sure working with babies and infants isn't it, even if the pay is $4 an hour more.
I think I already have my mind made up that I'm going to the lower paying microbio job because it's the kinda shit I wanna do and I would enjoy the job and am familiar with the work. If you can provide a valid argument why I shouldn't tell me. Yeah money is important, but so is finding out the path you wanna take for your career. I don't think doing EEGs on babies is the career I want.

Definitely take the one you would enjoy more. I completely disagree with luvdemshrooms - you're young, so you DON'T have to worry about money as much. You have your whole life to get a high-paying job. The experience from this one might help you get another job you like in your field that pays very highly, rather than doing unrelated work that might not help you down the line.

Really.
More money = loans paid faster = less interest = more in your pocket. More money in your pocket should = more money in your 401K which should = earlier retirement.
Pay the bills, then get the job that makes your nipples perky.
Sacrifice now to reap the bennies later.
Doing what you want is great. Making more money now is better in the long run.
In the beginning I did what would make me more money. This led to my being able to retire at... 38. I retire for awhile intent on retiring for good, then I get bored and start another company to have something to do.
To beat this drum even harder... would you rather retire at 50 or at 66?

How do you even know he has loans? He hasn't mentioned that anywhere. I could be making $100k right now, but I choose to work for a smaller company, being a bigger shareholder, that could end up paying out more in the long run. The money right now is not always the best option.

I don't recall stating that it was always the best option. However, it quite often is and for someone who has "loans like a motherfucker" it's almost certain to improve his position now and later in life.
Sacrifice now, benefit later.

I'd say take the job you'll like. While I don't know your financial situation, in a standard 40 hr./wk. job you'll pull in about $160/wk.
As your science career progresses, that probably won't amount to much. While you don't know for certain, the experience may be worth much more than that.
