Soon-to-be first time grower, trying to grow some Lion's Mane indoors

Okay, so I am extremely new to growing mushrooms (and shroomery.org as well), and so am naturally a bit lost. I've been doing a good bit of reading using many of the resources available on this site, but it's a lot to digest. I want to grow Lion's Mane mushrooms, and have found a reliable source of spores. Now, I don't have the means to do a grow exactly how I'd like it (I want to grow them on logs but don't have access to any, so a bag method is what I'll have to resort to), but I have so far drawn up some tentative plans for how I can do it as cheaply as possible without just buying some grow kits, unless y'all would highly recommend doing that first even if it ends up being a bit more expensive in the long run. I was just wondering if the tentative plan I have now would be feasible for growing, or if there are any critical mistakes here (very likely), like missing or extra steps, or doing something totally wrong; I just don't feel extremely confident of my understanding of how it all works, so some feedback would be super appreciated.
Basically I was planning on following the PF-Tek to make spawn in some mason jars, then putting the cakes in a bag along with whatever the best substrate I can find, and just keeping the bags relatively moist and in some indirect sunlight until fruiting. Does this sound reasonable? Any deviations from the prescribed method I should consider? Also, for the sterilization, is it acceptable in this case to just put everything in some boiling water for a few hours? Ideally I'd like to use a pressure cooker but they can be pretty damn expensive. Also, will I need to sterilize the bags and substrate as well, or just the mason jars and medium that will be in it?
Sorry for the probably newbie questions. I'm reading up as much as I can on this site but there's a lot of information, so progress is slow.

Hello, and welcome to the shroomery.
Lion's mane is an amazing species. Also, you would get better answers in the gourmet and medicinal forum because the crowd there studies on these species. Lion's mane is a wood lover, and thrives on sawdust substrates. Cultures of proven, isolated genetics are more commonly used than spores with edible/med species. You will have better luck if you prepare your spawn in a pressure cooker. As far as bulk substrate you can pour hot (170-180F), not boiling water into a bag of dry ingredients: hardwood fuel pellets, gypsum, and coffee but what you can not do is pasteurize supplements (grains) like wheat bran. I believe lion's mane is one of those species that really benefits from supplements in the bulk sub, so that would be ideal. Get a pressure cooker at the very least. All american electric sterilizer is the way to go if you get really into it. Check out ebay/craigslist for deals on used AA 25x's. Tatoo shops closing in your area might also have great deals.
Good luck

Thanks for the advice, I'll re-post this there then! If I start with a spawn instead of spores, would that mean I just skip straight to the bag part?
