Think I over-dried my latest harvest...chewy?
    #18818432 - 09/09/13 10:35 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Had a full dehydrator, turned it on about 5PM yesterday so they would be ready to pull out and bag before I went to bed. Needless to say I forgot about them until I woke up at 6AM this morning. The weird thing is they're not cracker dry at all, the stems are "chewy".

It normally takes 5 hours or sometimes less with a packed dehydrator, so I dont understand how 13 hours didnt get them cracker dry. Did I mess them up? And before anyone asks, yes my dehydrator is working fine and putting out heat like normal.

i have this same problem. I'll leave mushrooms in there for two full days at 160 degrees F and they'll still feel a little squishy like that. Would really like to know why too

Wow that's weird. Was it packed full? Chewy is not good. Id say put them in longer

No I make sure it's never super full. I think it might have something to do with there being a high ambient humidity where I live

Put it in a small room so the dehydrator will help kill the humidity in the room. That shouldn't be that big of an issue though

I don't know what else I could try to do. I've tried cutting the mushrooms in half, even though they weren't so big that it should matter. That didn't help much either. 160 is as hot as my dehydrator gets..

Dont know what to tell you, besides put them back in for another run

Maybe look into getting a new dehydrator? I dont know, but if you have a full dehydrator, then I would say it would be worth it to look into some alternatives to make sure your harvest isnt wasted
