Today's trash, tomorrow's smoker 2

Here is my most recent smoker. It's made from an old hot water heater tank. Which sucks cause it's too thin, but that's what the guy wanted and he didn't want to spend anymore money on it.
I know the tank looks crooked on the firebox but its just the camera angle. It's all nice and level.
Cooking surface is 50" x 15" and it's gonna get some wheels on it to make it a patio smoker. $700 bucks is what he's paying for it. Anyone else think this thing is uglier than my retarted uncle Tom's wife?

I do. I assume he's only going to be cold smoking because that thin ass water heater isn't going to do real well with a fire in it.

Personally I think smokers are supposed to be ugly. That thing would be pretty dope if it wasn't so thin.

Those are some hardcore smokers right there. most of those look impossible to sell cause the cost would be so high to make. Except the orange one on the trucks receiver hitch. That's just fucking dope.

The tank only needs to hold about 225 - 250. The box the fire goes in is made of 1/8 inch plate steel. It'll hold some pretty intense heat before it starts warping.
I'm having a lot of fun building these. I've almost got this one done (besides paint). Ill post another pic in an hour or so.

I tend to use the side fire box on mine only for cold smoking because it doesn't make the main chamber hot enough.
I got this http://www.homedepot.com/p/Brinkmann-Smoke-N-Pit-Charcoal-Smoker-810-3045-SB/203679870#.Ui4UqT-P-_I
$180. 20 years young and I use it as a grill sometimes when I want real heat.

well this thread was better than i thought
when i saw the title i thought it was gonna be about rolling cigarette butts or roaches or something
smokes got to use special wood like oak or something right? i was thinking cause it was thin it might deal with coals better, but than i guess itd just be a bbq

We use hickory cause we have 5 acres of cut down trees. U have to use a hard wood because u cook ur food for about 2 and a half hours @ 225f. If u use something soft like poplar it will burn up and leave no coals.
I never tried cold smoking. Apparently you only cook @ 85f for I don't know how long.

I took a break cause its 95f outside. It's gonna cool off in like 3 hours. I got a little more done but i still have to install a shelf on the front, caster wheels, and a latch on the firebox door. I'm gonna get it painted tonight then ill post another pic of it.
You won't believe the difference it will make after I paint it all black. Won't be ugly anymore.
