Getting back to normal after a very difficult experience
    #18817761 - 09/09/13 03:39 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Hi all. About 3 months ago me and a few friends journeyed together on mushrooms and San Pedro.
i've taken mushrooms maybe 10 times before and have about 6 years experience with regular Ayahuasca sessions...

I took 3g (alacabenzi) that night and no SP which is less than I would usually take.  During the night joints were passed
around quite often and I smoked whenever it came to me (which I don't usually do after taking mushrooms).  about
2 hours in way passed the come-up I started getting a bit worried as I couldn't feel my feet and lower legs at all.

I tried to focus on other things and succeeded for some time. at some stage I felt this intense vibration go through
my body and it felt like deja vu and I realised that that moment was the time I am going to die.  I got up and went to
the bathroom to try to throw up...

on the way there I bumped into a friend and told him I think I am dying.  He tried to talk
me down for a while but I just went deeper and the bathroom walls felt like it was bending in towards me.  My friend and
another friend tried talking me down for a while and succeeded to some extent but I kept falling back into that fear state where I was thinking that I am having a heart attack/stroke over the next few hours.

afterwards I felt a bit drained but well overall.
The next morning I felt renewed and ready to take mushrooms again.  2 weeks later I did an Ayahuasca ceremony and strangely all went well.  2 weeks after that I did another Ayahuasca ceremony and everything went well for the first part.  At some stage joints
were passed around again and I had maybe 3 puffs.

I was quite stoned but nothing unusual...  Then I had another dose of Ayahuuasca and at some stage during the experience I was thinking about my difficult mushroom experience and suddenly I felt that vibration/shock in my upper chest again and my heart started beating MUCH faster than usual.  I got up and started walking around and felt like that had to be the end and feeling very sure that I am having a heart attack.  After a few friends tried talking me down for some time I returned to a more calm state.

The week following that night I kept having flashbacks and feeling like I am having a heart attack.  I use to smoke marijuana every night but after that second bad experience whenever I smoke I get that uncomfortable chest feeling and thinking I might be having a heart attack...

After 3 weeks of that I went to see a doctor and he did a ECG which was completely normal and he assured me that it was just anxiety attacks.  He gave me some alprazolam and lerazopam which I took whenever I felt it coming on.  I went to visit family a week later and decided to take 2g of the same mushrooms while I was there.  I started with 1g and felt amazing after the come-up with more appreciation for everything around me, like I usually feel while coming down after a higher dose.

I then took the other gram and 5min later I thought I was having a heart attack again.  I was rushed to hospital where another ECG was done showing everything was perfectly normal.  I got a lerazopam injection which calmed me and was refered to a psychiatrist...
I saw the psychiatrist and after 5min she wanted to put me on anti-depressants.  I decided not to go for that as I didn't feel depressed at all.

3 months later today in general I am feeling much better with no more anxiety attacks but whenever I use anything mind altering (even coffee) I start feeling like the earth is moving under my feet and a bit anxious.
I very badly want to get back into journeying with entheogens but not sure where to start.

After reading up a lot the 2 things I am considering are microdosing with mushrooms and/or taking maybe 2g with alprazolam to try overcome that fear and then leaving the alprazolam the next time I use psilocybin.

Has anyone here been through something simular?  If so was it ever possible to get back into it?  If so please let me know how you managed to do that.

sorry for the long post

Might just be bias, but almost every bad trip report I read contains smoking weed....so I don't smoke weed on mushrooms. Seems to work on the whole...

Ive had many awesome times smoking weed and many horrible times without it. Though i will say, weed may cause some anxiety, but it still comes down to set/setting.

I only smoke when I'm doing other things rolling tripping etc, weed gives me anxiety in general. Try leaving the green alone for awhile especially while tripping, I'm with above poster seek out other interests for a while a little while sober can do your body and mind a world of good

Agreed. Just give it time and focus on areas of your life your interested in. When you feel the pull to try them again, just start slow. When you start feeling overwhelmed and tension in your chest just accept it. It will pass. You already know your fine from the ECG, so just let the feelings come and go. Dancing through your open mind. Dont fight, you cant fight yourself, theres no point. Open up to it.

My brother had some VERY similar happen to him. He was on 4 aco dmt, a few nootropics, and then smoked some herb. In the middle of the night I got a call to come down to the hospital. He had the same chest beating anxiety, thought he tore an aortic valve. He had flashback anxiety where he would feel the chest thing after that aswell.
We both went to get ECG and where fine.

He was trying to cope with the residual anxiety, but the thing is it does get better over time. When you have a tramatic event sometimes it can take alittle while to get over. But everything comes to pass.

I suggest going to some yoga classes or meditation groups, practice different ways to slow your breathing slow your thoughts. Notice your mind/body when it starts to speed up.

Give microdosing a try.
If you are going to try mixing a anti anxiety with psychedelics, I think phenibut might be your best choice. That way you maintain a totally clear head through the experience and able to dive deep, I feel 2mg aprozolam would be effective in inhibiting anxiety but might dull down the trip.

I never smoke during my trips, it seems to cloud it up for me lead them down a confusing and anxious path. I dont really smoke at all anymore though, its usually overwhelming for me and anxiety prone.

I do microdose weed though, so i can recommend that. I make weed edibles and eat less than .1 worth of herb, probably ~ (.025 or .05). I feel the nice subtle aspects without excess energy leading to anxiety.

Anyways, I wish you the best man. Just keep developing your life, this is it! You will be ready to revisit the psychedelic space again.

I think you need to step back and take a look at what you're proposing.

You are proposing to force yourself to have a 'good' trip by relying on benzos to get rid of the anxiety...
Is that really sensible?

Why do you feel that it is necessary to consume mushrooms no matter what? The last time I had mushrooms was probably over 18months ago. I think they are just as great as the next person but I'm not forcing myself to eat them. And it wasn't from lack of supply. I just felt that the mushrooms had done their job for the time being.

Mushrooms are a means to an end, not an end in themselves. I think you are failing to see that. It's not about how often you can take mushrooms, it's about how little you can take them.

Good luck and stay safe.

I second this.
Also healty eating and yoga. Yoga is 'effort towards concentration', yoga is training the body to be able to focus. Yoga is building your inner energy and strength, it will help alot.

Do as DustJuice said, put in some good yoga practice for 6-12 months then come back with a 1.5g dose .. IMO. .which of course, is worthless

Thanks Fuzziness sounds like a good idea  it's been 3 months now without touching anything psychoactive.  In general I feel much better with no more sudden panic attacks, it still happens sometimes but  in a much less intense way or maybe i'm just getting used to handling it. I still feel like I need a few more months away from anything though...

...................what...what seriously PISSES ME OFF is that in this fucked up culture with its fucked up 'war on drugs' the ONLY 'help' you get when you go to their places are D R U G S!!!!!!!!!!!

Not one of them I bet asked you about your diet? If you get exercise...? No, they just push drugs at you, and what they do is make your body depend on them and make you worse.

So my advice is what I am implying. Nutrition and exercise. And then you will not be so paranoid when having psychedelic experience that your having a heart attack or whatever, and will surrender to whatever vibrations you feel.
The feeling of the heart opening is vibratory~~~

Hi ZzripZ  yes exactly I couldn't believe the psychiatrist after 5min trying to push anti-depressants.  I asked her seriously there's no therapy/counceling route and her response was "No just take the pills for 6 months..."  as for excercise i've been doing a lot lately and feeling much better in general, no more spontanious panic attacks and depersonalisation.  aAs for nutrition I think I can definately improve there still...

And thanks again everyone that replied.  Every bit of advice has been very helpful/reassuring.  I posted the same question at DMT-nexus and strangely only one person responded so far...

I had something similar happen to me, trip was going all good until I decided to rip the vaporizer again after that it all went down there and my chest started hurting  so bad I thought I was having a heart attack. I wasn't able to smoke bud or anything for at least 6 months or I'd have those same chest pains, I'm able to smoke again with no problems and wanting to shroom again just took awhile for me to actually  feel normal again in the head. Glad to hear your feeling normal again!
