My first successful mono (Pink boofalo)
    #18817524 - 09/09/13 12:51 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

So my 2nd mono attempt has been a success and so far im thinking i may have some pretty awesome genetics.  Got some fatties growing here!

Porn:

My question though is, is the size and shape of these genetic?  or could it be my environment?  Also, what is with my pinset?  not enough evap off the surface of the substrate?

Nice! Your questions have a lot of possible answers. My guess is that if anything is not optimal, it likely would have to do with how tightly stuffed the polyfil is on the bottom holes and how lightly it is stuffed on the top holes. Then there's also light and the moisture content of the substrate itself.

I just know there is quite a bit of moisture on the surface of the substrate itself, so i thought i could have not enough evap or something.  but the "rings" around my stuffed holes look right.  I loosened up the top holes and the pinset seemed to accelerate, so i think i just need to give it another day or two for the majority of them.

Just for the record, my mono was made in a 1:1 ratio of spawn to verm/coir, no gypsum.  Slipped my mind and forgot to add it before pasteurization lol.  7qts of each.  And I have 15 jars of pb at almost 100%.  2 jars were contaminated though.  My master jar for PE6, and a PB transfer jar.

Those look remarkably similar to my pink buffalo (i've grown a few dozen tubs of em over the past few months).

Everything looks great. fruits look health. If it's MS then you're facing problems with genetics rather than environment it seems.

Do you have a light set up?

Edit- just saw it. You need to remove one of the top holes' poly. Make the other side very  loose, and the bottom ones tight. It makes for the perfect environment for a tub

Well that's good to hear lol.  Do I need to remove tthe poly completely?  Or just restuff to be very loose?  Because I have already done that.  I followed Frank's advice and could probably blow the poly out of the top holes just with lung pressure lol.  Bottom holes are tight.  Well, at least to me they are.  I think the tub is doing better since I changed that two days ago, even more pins this morning.  And that one monster has opened and ready to harvest :3.  I'm guessing its gonna be around 2g dry.

Well if they're that loose, then you're probably fine. Do you work with agar? I would suggest taking a clone and then working with that culture.

It will vastly improve your yield

I'd take 2 or 3 samples. Take the big ones in clusters. Then you can test each and find out which fruits the best

Those fruits look great!  Nice and fat.
We're pink buffalo mono brothers, got a tub going of those myself but 1st flush was 50 or so small fruits and lots of 1.5" aborts.
A 2g dry fruit! :wowz:
Did you innoc from multispore and what grain did you use for your spawn?

Im glad they are looking good!  Im hoping to not have any aborts!  And its looking to be more like a 3-3.5g dry.  it weighed out at 36.4g fresh.  One BEAST of a shroomie.  well, for me at least.  i have seen some as big as peoples forearms here.  but that is isolates and stuff.

I do plan on doing agar/isolating/cloning eventually, but i dont really have the money and my access to a pressure cooker is limited.  One day

My spawn for this tub is actually about 50% red wheat berries and 50% popcorn!  All mixed into 50/50 coir verm.  They were all g2g from a single master jar inoculated with a multispore.  I plan on making a tek for my wheat berries.  I cant find rye berries around here, but they are more or less the same thing.

So another was ready to come out into the dry world, and its even bigger!  Weighed out at 39.88g wet!  This tub continues to amaze me!

Moar Pr0n:

One thing i have seemed to notice, is that with the addition of popcorn to the substrate, it seems to be a lot more resillient to pulling and tugging.  i was able to pull the shroomy far enough so i could cut as little as possible.

That was the only one with a broken veil atm, but looks to be quite the harvest in the morning!

Morning 9/10/13

~200g wet.

Evening 9/10/13.  Had my first major harvest!  Any guesses on weight?  This was about half of what is in the tub.  The rest will be ready to harvest tomorrow.

Im currently printing 4 caps.  one of the suckers is like 3-4 inches in diameter!

In that second picture you can let those left few shrooms go a little longer until the veil breaks.

Haha thanks!  And that's not even the whole tub!  I probably will have about that same amount ready to be harvested tomorrow.  The pins came in waves lol.  I hope this mono wasn't a one flush wonder, if not, its one hell of a first flush on my first mono.

And yeah I know I could have let them go longer, but they were attached to other shroomies or I pushed them over with my clumsy ass hands trying to harvest the ones that were done.

My dehydrator has been running for like 4 days straight lol, and just keeps getting more added to it lol.  That other fatass dried to around 3.75g.  It's at 3.9 right now and is crispy, but may finalize to about 3.75.

On another note, I need a way to pasturize about 10qts of coir/verm.  I can't use jars because I don't really have a pot for it atm.  I've heard RR comment about gallon bags in an insulated cooler with boiling water method.  Is this reliable?  Any good teks?

Why don't you have a pot?

Lol what I mean is that I don't have a pot big enough to do more then 5 quarts at a time using the jar method.  I mean I suppose I can do two batches or something, but don't I have to let the jars cool in the pot/cooker?  Or can they cool in open air?

No, they should be cooling rapidly after the pasteurization process is complete.  That is part of proper pasteurization.

Nice homie! I read your reply to my earlier post. I have talked to trusted cultivators about signs of having a properly dialed in mono-tub and I was told that at all times there should be little droplets of water all over your substrate, kind of like dew.
