alright..i started a monotub using the bucket tek..put a lil more verm in than I shoulda but I don't think itll hurt it..i only used 4 pints of colonized wbs...theres small patches popping up around the edges and very small isolated spots coming through the top..its been about a week since I combined them...the top is only like 5-8% colozined...this is gonna take forever isn't it??

Depending on how evenly you mixed the substrate, and how much of a top layer you applied to it, it just might.
Did you mix the grains evenly or layer them with the substrate?

How thick or thin is the substrate?
It can take forever. I did 18" thick of poo once using popcorn. It started just fine, then took forever and contaminated, it fruited some freaking monsters though. but contaminated during the flush with a bit of trich.
If the sub is too thick or wet it is no good. The extra verm isn't too much of an issue. It might make it sub-optimal to colonize. Especially if there is little nutrition. But it isn't the issue. Air exchange and the substrate thickness are issues. If you are over 5" for your spawn rate or don't have poly-fil holes for exchange you are asking for trouble.... Also incubate at 80F for rapid colonization. make sure the temp, (air, humidity)-using poly-fil, and depth of substrate are ok first. Volume of the sub for cubensis isn't an issue until you go over a 5-9 cf at certain depths so we don't need to go into that.
Shoot for 100% colonization after 11 days.

the sub is only 4 inches deep and I mixed it..thought I mixed it evenly as I could...I shoulda did the lasagna layer tek..ya know..a layer of sub, a layer of wbs. and so on...but its airtight right now..no air or light...that's one thing im afraid of..its gonna take too long and get sick..it doesn't really matter about the temp for colonization though..as long as its not like 65F..i used 4 pints of wbs to 4 inches of sub!!! gonna be forever well at least at few more weeks before I can even start to fruit I hope..thanks yall!!

No, you shouldn't have...
Mixing the grains evenly trumps layering every time.
You get much more even colonization, which makes it faster.

Well if it's air tight you are suffocating it, it needs some GE.
The imperfect lid should provide this GE.
Do not try and seal the tub, just lid lid is all that is needed.

Fruit it at 100%, it might not take that long....
Did you use a top layer of coir after you mixed the substrate?
If so how thick was it do you think?
You should open the lid of the tub and snap a pic real quick.
