Ideal time to extract GLC-- colonizing? consolidated? etc?
    #18816660 - 09/08/13 08:34 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

It occurs to me now that in all of the leading GLC teks I've read...

everybody begins the tek with a "colonized jar" that they up and decided to extract from via water... I haven't found a post or tek where someone mentioned the *ideal* stage for extraction. I can see the potential benefits of going for it during mid-colonization (myc is still in an expansion phase) just as easily as I can see it making sense during consolidation (It's stronger, healthier myc).

2 questions
What time do you think is best to extract myc via GLC?
You may choose only one
How confident are you that this is correct?
You may choose 1

No one lets grains consolidate. There is no need

Oh and you want young vigorous myc for lc. Not myc that is consolidating the substrate preparing to fruit.

Hope this helps

FYI, I've currently got 4x clean pint jars, 1/2 full & knocked up via MS ready to extract. It's been (maybe past ideal date... we'll see).

they were each knocked up with 1CC of B+ MS 20 days ago. They're @ 100% and dense, but non-rhizo. Here's a pic from a couple days back:

I'll appreciate any insight on this-- obviously it's a bit late for these ones if the advice is to extract prior to full colonization.

Imo the best time would be right as it reaches 100 percent. At this phase there is the maximum amount of myc in the jar and it is still young and vigorous and in colonization mode. Make sense?

Quick follow-up question:

I've got 4x fully colonized popcorn jars inoculated via the same MS syringe. Pretty consistent growth rates jar-to-jar.

Any reason that I shouldn't put them all into the SAME water jar for 2-3 days prior to using?
