I thought the exact same thing too. This proves I am indeed getting cynical.
I'm so glad the OP proved us both wrong. Shows I need to pull my head outta my arse.
Nice post Andjew. Welcome to the shroomery!

I usually find it better to cut 2-3 nodes down it promote branching. plus you get some leaves to munch on

you wanna clip a clone worth off it now before it gets too top heavy and falls over. It will also bush out from the base better that way.

When Salvia plants get too top heavy they break. Then you would have to reroot it. The trick is to make it branch lower by clipping it down as far as possible. Thats why I said that. Its not just about looks.

Andjew said: Yeah man don't worry I plan on topping it this week when I have time to get a pot ready. Right now it has a couple bamboo stick supporting the top growth so it doesn't snap.
They only snap when grown indoors, without wind to strengthen stems, and in low light conditions. Staking is ok but you can strengthen the stems by literally slapping the plant around a few times a day or by utilising an oscillating fan to simulate wind. Wind helps move the plant around naturally, it's response is to produce more cellulose to strengthen cell walls, the slapping simulates wind to a degree.... The result of this is more rigid stems, able to support top growth. Salvia can easily grow to 1.5 metres+ without snapping if outdoors or grown in a way to make a strong plant.

In the wild the branches break off also and when they hit moist Earth they root. Thats how the plant spreads in the wild because it doesnt set viable seeds very often.

Your plants look lovely man! feel free to checkout my salvia grow log whenever you feel like it I recommend letting the plant do its thing for a month or two before messing with taking cuttings, thats what I did anyway. Also topping is a good idea, best thing I ever did to my mother plant. When it has a long stem to disperse nutrients it doesnt do so as efficiently as it would if it were topped. Id say wack it in half, put the cutting into a cup of moist soil or perlite (ive noticed faster rooting in perlite, but thats just my opinion) If you cut the main stem in half I'm willing to bet all those little sprouts at the bottom will explode into main branches. Salvia dont need high humidity to grow once acclimated, but will thrive if grown in high humidity. I purchased a walk in greenhouse on clearance at Fred Meyers for $50 and my plants have probably doubled in size since throwing them in there.
