tricho planting depth

so i got some advice before i planted my cactus cuttings that i should plant them deep. they were roughly 8" cuttings give or take and i left probably about 2" above the soil give or take. i planted these about 5 days ago and after reading threw another thread on here about a guy planting his cuttings really deep and there never seemed to be an answer on wether or not there was a benefit so im wondering if i did the right thing here. i know its gonna lead to less to start growing from but will it speed anything up on growth because of the bigger root system or should i pull them up a little and just stake them to hold stability

I would personally only put 2-3 inches in the ground; the more light it gets, the faster it'll grow... JMHO though

no problem man, welcome to the shroomery.... just make sure the soil stays dry until it gets roots, you can just put it in an empty pot and some stakes to hold it up... it'll root just as well and you'll be able to notice it striking roots

lol ive been here just dont post here much usually at topia. but thanks
i basically just mixed the soil and planted em. definetally not watering i dont want to risk having them rot these are my first cacti and the only ones ill have till i can get cash to actually buy more which could be awhile unfortunatly. might start some loph seeds when i can order em but that takes forever even.
didnt know that could work thats an awesome idea ill try that whenever i cam get more cuttings i want these to be stable in soil right now because there coming on a long drive with me.

You want to reverse your buried:above ground ratio. Planting those cuttings that deep has no advantages over planting them 2" deep.

You did the right thing. Cacti roots will start branching out more horizontally rather than vertically so planting it that deep has no benefits at all. Both of those guys above gave good advice. Just keep the cutting in bone dry soil, out of full sun and heat and check it once every few weeks for root development.
