Do you need a "reason" to trip?

Hello all. I've done pleeenty of research on LSD and shrooms, done shrooms once and enjoyed myself thoroughly. It was a really awesome experience.
My question is, is it okay to trip without having a reason to do so? I hold GREAT respect for mushrooms so it's not like I don't know what I'm getting into or anything. I've just read a lot of places that you should know why you're tripping, be it for self-exploration or spiritual discovery, what have you. For me, I'm really content with who I am right now and am also very happy with where I'm at spiritually, so I'm not expecting to "find myself", or have some intense revelation about finding God (I like to think that I already have).
I did shrooms (and enjoyed it) because it was an intensely different experience than anything I've ever felt before. I am hesitant to say I'm using them recreationally, because that implies a certain lack of respect and understanding as to just how powerful they can be. But it was something that was fun to do. I've heard that shrooms will be whatever you want them to be, and that was pretty true for me when I did them. I ate 3.5g dried in chocolate, and didn't have any particularly deep thoughts or revelations about the universe or myself, I just kinda enjoyed the euphoria and watching the walls breathe (among other fantastic visuals).
I am asking this because, in my inexperience, I don't want to be caught off guard and have a terrible trip because I am taking them for the wrong reasons. Any input is greatly appreciated
Good vibes

If you're okay with who you are, then theres nothing wrong with just tripping for fun. Only reason I don't really trip anymore is I'm not okay with who I am

hahah i mean if you THINK you need a reason then i suppose it would not be productive to do it with a reason. but the truth it is all personal. you can take them however you feel.

a motorcycle is very powerful, and commands respect or it will (in actuality) kill you... yet people ride them, recreationally, every.damn.day... there is absolutely nothing about "recreational use" that implies disrespect... i think that whole mindset is a byproduct of some judeo/christian guilt trip bullshit... yes, these chemicals can seem to have a "spiritual" side... who the fuck ever said getting spiritual shouldn't be fun...
"to have a good time" is enough reason for me...

You don't need a reason, that's silly.

Yes, I think you need a reason. Even if it's just because you wanted to do it - that's reason enough (and probably the best reason). I say this because I have shitty memories of laying in bed past 4am on the tail of an acid trip thinking of bad things and asking myself - why the fuck did I do this? I didn't even want to trip. I did it out of boredom, I guess.

I think one reason to trip could be purely for the experience, most of my trips though have been for bettering myself, tripping tonight actually.

Is boredom a reason?

I believe that tripping just for the novelty of the experience is a perfectly valid reason to trip. So yeah, you've got a reason. Now you know!

god that can be the worst. I'm getting closer and closer to being mentally healthy enough to try tripping again. Can't decide if I should micro dose or mega dose
I heard a theory, which I thought sounded logical, that taking too few mushrooms makes it hard for you to let go and surrender to the experience. Therefore you have fewer stressful/bad trips if you eat enough to totally let go, which is often more then 3.5 grams.
that amount is at least 7g for me. depending on potency (obviously)

they're just personal rules. invented when people have a 'bad' mushroom experience and try to figure out why.
thats what i do at least.
I'm like, did i lose respect for them? was it the setting, was it my mood?

I am literally exactly where you are at. I've got a lot of stressful life issues going on right now, and I am trying to work through them. On top of that I don't feel like I can return to the shroom realm almost empty handed. It's taught me a lot, and I am still working on some things to better myself. The things I learned a long time ago.
I am close as well to being able to trip, and I am not sure about my dosage either. I currently have a few CONFIRMED STRONG acid hookup, but I have to resist because I feel like I need to make peace with the shroom "realm" I don't know if I should take an ego destroying dose, and possibly have a very uncomfortable experience (again ) or micro dose and work up to it?
I am very close, and I am introducing someone to the world of psychedelics soon as well. I feel like I have helped a lot in his preparation, but... I just need to be able to go through another trip. I am so nervous to trip again honestly... Meditation and the shroomery has helped though.

I'm really glad you feel almost ready to try again too! I know for me, it's a HUGE part of my life/philosophy, so it feels weird not being able to do it.
On that note, I think I will try one rather small micro dose, which I will use to meditate on the bigger trip I'm building up to.
If I have a good experience on that micro dose, and feel I've really thought it out and feel healthy enough to trip for real, then I'll go for a bigg dose the second time.
I'll likely eat around 7-10 dried grams worth of fresh mushrooms, by the 1 to 10 weight ratio for fresh to dry. Have ego death, rediscover my spiritual side, and find the motivation I need to live life to the fullest!
