Anyone have experience with this? Any tips or best companies?
Sounds pretty exciting and I'm also thinking about joining the military so might as well try this first...

You should definitely try this. Don't join the military; you won't last.

I'm sure I'd last in the military and do quite well... }
But I'm thinking of other options to weigh before making a life changing decision

It's a big decision for sure, but a good one if you get a good job and enjoy your work, and if you are mentally prepared for the stress of combat. Remember, you hold the lives of many men in your hands. You fuck up, and a lot of people can die; it's a big responsibility. What branch are you thinking of joining?

I would stay away from carnival. They seem to be having a few major problems lately...
If you want to join the military then join...ain't nothing wrong with that.

Yeah - DON'T YOU FUCKING DO IT!
All their employees are non-American so they pay them like $2 an hour, you wouldn't be much better (in most cases) yourself, plus, why support that? It's not an adventure either, it's a job, it's menial labor, you'll be running around making beds and washing cum stains.

There are entire teams of people that work on cruise ships. Servers, room cleaners, musicians, crewman, security, lighting, sound, etc, etc. It depends what you plan on applying for and what skills you have.

My younger brother worked on a cruise ship for a summer. It was a smaller ship, and did the same route each week. Marthas Vineyard, Block Island, and a few other stops. He worked essentially all day, but it paid relatively well for a college kid. He only did it the one summer though. I think essentially working 12hr days 7 days a week sucked too much. He said he was lucky. There were two types of crew members. Deck Hands and Stewards(?) I forget really, but essentially he was the only male steward or whatever. He cleaned rooms and served food. The Deck Hands were often on call. For example, if they showed up in port at 4am they would be roused to help with the docking.

Goddamn what's with all the cruise ship stuff today? Since last night I've stumbled across and have been reading all this shit:
http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1lyygj/iama_long_time_employee_of_the_tourism_industry/
http://www.cruiseshipdeaths.com/index.html
http://www.reddit.com/r/MorbidReality/comments/1ly4zy/this_website_lists_tons_of_deaths_that_occurred/
Lots of a good info there. Seems like a very interesting, very well paid gig (depending what you do), if you don't mind leaving everyone and everything you know for 6 months at a time. But apparently even if you're just a low level noob on the ship like the maids and shit, they still get paid like $800/month. But considering you are also getting free food/lodging/all expenses paid basically, that's all money in the pocket. More money than many middle class people take home each month after paying all the bills. Apparently the higher up people make mad bank. I guess it also depends highly on what cruise ship company you are working for. The OP in that first thread recommends Princess as one of the best ones.
Looks like debauchery abound as well.
