Is this myco or a contaminant???
    #18811926 - 09/07/13 03:13 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

This is my second attempt at a grow. Someone please tell what the hell this is? I swear I have no luck. I mean I think I know what it is but I don't want to admit to myself I failed yet again. Someone else tell me.

Ewww.  Does not look good to me man.  I have been worried about my jars, but they are not like that.  GL

I would put my 2 cent at dirty syringe. It grows right in your mycel spot.
And you said this is the second time it happened. Same color last time as well?

Did you make your own syringe or buy off a sponsor? (dont name sponsor here)

This jar AND this syringe were BOTH bought from shroomery sponsors. First use for the syringe. All sterile protocol was followed. I am pissed. The first time my bags didn't colonize they went halfway and gave out.

The best part is that I bought two syringes and that the other jars I shot up with the other strain aren't showing shit. I legit think a shroomery sponsor gave me one dud syringe and one syringe that was full of containment.

I have contacted them about this issue and hope they issue a replacement syringe free of charge.

Just for the record. We are all at consensus that I should get the jar the fuck out of my house pronto right? It's in my garage right now. Can I even reuse the jar? Boil it, dishwasher it, what?

I would agree with the dirty syringe suggestion as well. What temp do you have things set at? If you're at or above 80, I'd get it down to around 76.

No syringe is 100% clean and some are dirtier than others. This is not the fault of the vendor. This is just how these things go.

Besides, those spores are for microscopy, not cultivation.

Agar is what you need to clean up a dirty syringe.

Unfortunately since you are just doing PF cakes you will probably need new syringes.

Use the rest of your current syringes to knock up more jars, see if you have any success while waiting for your new ones to arrive.

Also, that contam looks like yeast to my eyes. PC 90 minutes, empty jar contents, re-use the jar

All the sites I researched sell ALL varieties of spores (oysters, shiitake, etc).  I never said what I bought nor will I ever.

Since that seems to be all that you took from my post, let me go ahead and fix it so maybe you will read the rest:

The fact that you use them for cultivation is relevant when you speak to the vendor about getting a new syringe. You should not mention that. That is why I mentioned it to you, duder

PS. If you were growing gourmets on PF cakes and posting about it here (instead of in the gourmet and medicinal forum), that would be pretty silly on both counts. I'm not stupid :crazy2:

It is simply referred to as " in my mycology research" in the email to the vendor. Thanks for the advice though.

Even better, just tell them you have a hard time distinguishing the spores under a scope due to contamination

I'll have to remember that for next time which I hope never happens because I'm going to have trash 16 jars.

Is there anyway I can sterilize these again without a PC? Or I'm I better off buying new jars and busting out the hammer and nail again?

It's not that I'm cheap; I just like to reuse first if I can THEN recycle.

Well, your username, JackofNoTrades, seems to be a self-fulfilling prophecy in this case.:rofl:

Throw out the Hammer and Nail. Use a drill, and flip your lids upside down when you drill so the holes are aimed up. PF Tek needs a PC I don't care how many people say you can steam them. I will argue those are the same people complaining about contams. All I know is if my Chicken cooks in under 15 mins, the PC is gonna kill some moldy spores.

  Did you flame the needle?

  Did you over inn?

  Did you take more pictures?

You can reuse the jars but I would recommend putting them in the PC.

And Frank we are only talking about Oysters anyway, right?

I thought it was a clever word play on a username for a beginner.

Didn't think it would bring no-flushes of bad luck. I didn't know that mycology was like golf in the fact that it looks easy as hell, but the slightest changes and factors produce big and undesirable results.

Maybe I should have picked the username MOLD=SHIT.
