P. Tampanensis Log - Spore to Fruit

first off big thanks to mycomattie for supplying the print that made this happen.
will update the thread as progress happens. i'm sure it's nothing special, but here it is none the less.
Sometime in late May i got the print. i innoc'd 2 dishes. transferred to 4 dishes after about a week. transferred again to 4 dishes. ended up with these.
top left i ended up calling #1 top right i called #2
i soaked 14 pints worth (about 7 dry cups) of rye berries with approx 25oz of coffee from a second pour of my morning french press and 1 large handful of gypsum. 24 hour soak. brought to just under boiling and dried for 60-90 minutes. filled jars and innoc'd in my sab with 1 wedge per jar. 7 pints of #1 and 7 pints of #2. used various lid types. all used post office tyvek. some double layered. some single. all had 1/2" hole in the middle. some had 4 x 1/8" holes around the side as well (ala pftek).

left in a dark closet in temps ranging from 70-90. couple days it got up to 100. the stones were starting to turn strange colors and as this was my first attempt at sclerotia i wasn't sure what to make of them so... after 2 months and 2 days i was ready to harvest half and spawn to bulk. i grabbed the #2 jars.

it turns out that all my fears of strange colors producing bad stones were put to rest when i opened the first jar. after dumping it out, breaking it all up and cleaning the grain off each stone, they looked normal enough i wasn't worried.

if you grow stones, it's really important to use wide mouth jars IMO. would be too hard to get the spawn/stones out if using tapered. it took me about 10 minutes per pint to seperate and clean them. ended up with a fresh weight of 263 grams (update 98 grams dried). did not notice any difference in harvest size or moisture content between jars with different lids or filters.

and on the tray with a PE that was ready. cock and balls?

the day before harvest i mixed up approx 8q of 50/30/20 poo/coir/verm and pasteurized with Frank Horrigan's tek in a filter bag. cold water start, heat at med-high until meat thermometer read 100. remove from heat, once internal temp was at 140 i started timer for 90 minutes. PC was covered but not latched the entire time except to check temp. removed at 90 minutes and put in a clean tub to sit over night.
as i said above it took me about 10 minutes per jar to remove the sclerotia and i did it all in one sitting so some of the grain was exposed to open air for up to an hour-ish. i used tyvek sleeves and alcohol wiped gloves. once harvest was complete i put the leftover grain into a half gallon jar and soaked it with tap water for 10 minutes. btw this thing is awesome for draining rehydrated grains. fits both wide and small mouth jars perfectly. nabbed it at the dollar store in the kitchen gadget aisle.

after a quick grain drain i used a clean 66g tub to mix my 50/30/20 and grains in. then loaded up 4 mini trays and 2 more extra mini trays, covered with foil, and put back in closet to colonize.

i have a bag of organic jiffy mix ready to case at full colonization, hopefully in a week or less.

DAY 8 - CASING. taking the foils off everything looked to be very healthy. the tamp mycelium is very greyish to start with but it all looked uniform and colonized. used roughly 1/2 gallon of jiffy mix and somewhere around a pint of tap water to get to field capacity. went straight from unopened bag into mixing bowl in kitchen, no special precautions taken. into grow room and spread roughly 1/4 inch across the tops of 4 of the square trays and 2 of the round ones as seen below. i used hands to spread it around evenly and ever so slightly tamp it down to even out the layer.

DAY 13 - BIRTHING Pt 1. i birthed 5 of the 6 today. put the 2 smaller round ones in a hybrid PMP with a bag of miatake that's braining up nicely. put 1 square in a SGFC with a 2nd flush cube tray. put the other 2 in a different SGFC with a bag of 2nd flush lion's mane. i'm running out of room. cannot seem to get my timing down with growing. i either have way too much going on or i'm trying to play catch up and have not enough going. anyway... i have no idea if putting these in with other species will effect anything but i'm going to be keeping a keen eye on contams developing on the older stuff. playing with diff genus and species is fun.

DAY 23 - Came home after a 3 day weekend and found pins. Nothing pic worthy yet.
DAY 25 - Couple pics of pins. still looking pretty weak so far. i honestly have no idea what i'm doing. just been treating them as cubes. casing layer has been staying moist so i've not had to do much misting. not sure if i should be increasing fanning to initiate. hope i get enough to print.

DAY 28 -

DAY 30 -

DAY 32 - not really sure when i can start printing these. wasn't expecting them to be quite so small caps. they are still growing and only a few have started to open though.

DAY 36 - something is wrong and i'm not sure what. any input is appreciated. the caps dont want to open up. slowly over the last few days they are starting to blacked up and wilt. it's been just a few at a time but overnight i got what you see in the pics. black/green slimy. if they were O2 starved i would have thought they'd try to grow up but lots of these are content to droop and find the bottom. dunno if too warm, to moist, not enough FAE, too much this or that or what. i'll pick out the black nasty ones and see what the others do over the next few days but i'm thinking this grow is over. plan is to harvest what i can in 2 days and then dig through the sub and harvest what stones might have formed over the last month and call it a done.
who says nobody posts failures.
i have 7 more pints of stones to harvest and i'm gonna do 2 15q mini monotubs with those.

to end this happily, here is a pic of a very nice tub of AA+ i harvested today. 5 full trays in the dryer
 to be continued...

right on. Is this your first sclerotia grow? soon i'll be doing the same with tampanensis and galindoi. Although cubes are pretty easy to grow, these species seems like its even easier

yep first time here. gonna start some galindoi tomorrow with the same process. haven't made it to fruits yet obv. but growing the stones was no sweat. it's a bit more tricky though, using poo and a casing layer. we'll see how the moisture does. i'm going to do my next batch in 2 15gal mini mono's and put half of these trays in a SGFC and the other half in a PMP. i know i know, but i've had much better results with my pmp's than i have with my SG's.

Very nice! I haven't scoped out any sclerotia grow logs yet, so this was a good read! I actually have a Tampensis print in my collection, and I'll get around to it eventually. Thanks for the well organized info!

look up FrankHorrigan, Violet and Stonesun's sclerotia info for the definitive guides.
oh and mycomattie seems to be able to hold his own as well

So the stones form white first, then turn color? Because on my P. Tampanensis have little white blobs forming on the sides of the jar.
Also some of the mycellium is an orangeish colo, I read this is normal groing with healthy white mycellium
Also is pinning in the jar a bad thing? Is this going to hurt growth.?

my stones started out more white first as well. my mycelium was never orange but it was definitely not white. more of a greyish hue.
as to pinning in the jar, do you actually have pins or what looks to be the start of pins ie: knotting? i dont have the answers to this but if you actually have pins i think you might have an issue. either with rotting tissue down the line or with too much air. but these are just guesses.

Actual pins 1in + in length.
I could open the jar in a SAB then pick them out or idk what else I could do.
I'm thinking of spawning it and cloning the fruit kinda sucks I have stones forming at the same time
