humidity when colonizing
    #18814324 - 09/08/13 08:45 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

I have had one cake that has been 100 percent colonized for like a week and there is no sign of any pins.

The summer ended where I am so does low humidity have anything to do with this?

95%+ humidity is needed for proper pinning. Are you giving it FAE as well?

If you are saying it is still in the jar with no pins than that's normal. If it has been one week since 100 percent colonized then go ahead and birth it, dunk it, roll it, and put it in a sgfc

Did you let it consolidate for a week after it was 100% colonized?
What are you using for a fruiting chamber?

It needs to be put in a terrarium if you want it to fruit unless your aiming for in-vitro fruits (fruits in the jar). The best terrarium for fruiting cakes is the SGFC(shot gun fruiting chamber).

Just watch Roger Rabbits videos "lets grow mushrooms"
It will show you everything you need to know about cakes

The fruiting chamber is just a plastic bin with a heater under it.

What is a FAE?

And should I put the jars in the fruiting chamber first with 95% humidity or should I birth them now?

What does consolidating them mean?

Fae is fair air exchange, and you should make it into a shut gun fruiting chamber oh and it's best to birth them and submerge them under water for 24 hrs then roll then onto verm after the 24 hrs has passed and as there submerged in the water try to get the humidity of the f.c up.
