You're definitely not alone on that. I agree for sure.
Miw4 I'd say a shoe box size and no smaller. Tall shrooms will probably press against the top but that's not a big deal. Putting them in a drawer is a big deal though. They won't be able to get proper Fae

miw4life said: okay just so you all know. I already used the search engine and got most of the information I needed. but I was wondering if I should put a few holes down right above the perlite and where the cake starts so I can have a little CO2 come out? and other suggestions?

Co2 does not sink, nor does it settle out of air, especially in a FC with cakes that are constantly generating heat and humidity currents.
I hate when I see this from noobs, so now I will fix it....

Wrong. CO2 is not like water which remains separate from air and will drain out the bottom. The CO2 MIXES WITH THE AIR, thus does not 'leak out the bottom'.
Before you tell us to go to science class(I have two engineering degrees-do you?), you should go back to second grade to learn the difference between a whole and a hole. RR

RogerRabbit said: According to my CO2 meter, far more CO2 is expelled out the top and sides than the bottom. CO2 isn't heavy like water, so it doesn't just 'drain' out. Instead, it mixes with the air that comes in, and then flows out mostly through the sides, but also the top due to turbulence caused by the design, which takes advantage of minute pressure differences caused by temperature(evaporative cooling within the perlite).
The bottom of a shotgun terrarium is the 'intake', so if there's no holes there, you will have lower humidity and a higher CO2 level because less air is coming in to the terrarium to push the CO2 and stale air out the sides and top. RR

They need at least a couple feet of open space on all sides. They also need holes in the bottom and need to raise off the floor. Most people set them on 4 jars to hold them up. This allows air to flow up through the perlite

yeah I know that they need to be lifted up. but idk if I can give them a foot of space on the sides because we cant scoot her bed over that much..itll be too noticeable.
