Cake's sides dry, pins on bottom need some advice.

First time grow, I have been reading the forums for about 6 weeks now and am on week 5 of my grow. I am growing A+ Albino and TC. Both seemed to colonize really slow but at week 3 after inoculation I birthed 8/12 cakes, dunk and rolled and DEC. Around that time I purchased an indoor greenhouse and a cool mist humidifier. I placed the cakes in the greenhouse in clear plastic bins with about an inch of damp perlite on the bottoms that hold about 4 cakes each. I did not cover the top of the bins but left them open to the air inside the GH. During week 1 in the GH I noticed that the sides of my cakes looked pretty dry and that the Verm casings on the tops of the cakes were in constant need of misting. I began to spray the sides and tops of the cakes directly with a soft mist but this did not solve the problem I also noticed what appears to be light bruising on some areas of the cakes around the sides. At this point I had been running the humidifier overnight and leaving it off during the day, I was misting several times a day.
It is now the beginning of week 3 in the GH and still no shrooms. I was getting really concerned last night because of the dry sides and the lack of growth so I decided to look at the bottoms of the cakes and I was pleased to discover pins on 2 of the cakes and mushrooms growing on another cake trying to work their way out from under. At this point I got on shroomery and found that this is somewhat common because of the RH at the bottom of the cake yadda yadda yadda. I decided to try raising the RH around all of my cakes by misting and then covering the bins that my cakes are in with the lids just barely cracked to allow some air to get in. I will fan and mist 4 times a day.
My question is...Is this going to improve my situation and stimulate growth or am I just compounding my problems? Any other advice anyone can add?

If you birthed your cakes 3 weeks after inoculation then I seriously doubt you gave them a 1 week consolidation period. This is one of your problems
You also should have just built a sgfc to fruit your cakes in. Cakes require a very high rh. A properly built sgfc maintains nearly 100% rh. Your gh can not provide that amount of humidity.
Build you a sgfc for the cakes and save the gh for bulk grows

yeah I get that I should have just built a SGFC for the cakes in the first place but seeing as how I didn't and its a bit late in the game for all that I'm asking for suggestions on how to optimize my current set-up/materials in order to get a decent grow and educated opinions on weather or not my idea or putting a lid loosely on the bins will improve things for my cakes.

Sounds like you have perlite already so just go spend $8 on a plastic tub, drill or melts some holes, and bam you got a sgfc

I just made a small SGFC with the 2 clear plastic bins I was using. I drilled holes in both of them and transferred the perlite to one and flipped the second one over and used it as the top half. I'm using micropore tape to hold it together. I know its ghetto fab but it should do the trick right?

Lol ghetto man! Nice job making use of what you had. I like! Now you just have to mist and fan a couple times a day and wait for shrooms

Cakes? Why not try the favorite SGFC..... Cakes suck in grow chambers. They don't get the benefit from all of the loveable crampedness of a good old fashion SGFC>

Am really glad I made this little SGFC, the difference in the cakes is significant in just one day. The cakes are much more hydrated looking in the areas I was concerned about (sides, tops)and new mycelium is grabbing onto the verm casings. A strong smell of mushrooms coming off when I fan. My Hygrometer is reading 86%. I'm thinking that is not too bad because I have the window open and there is a constant breeze. No new pins that I know of.
actually just checked on it and my RH was at 91% so its sitting pretty good

There should be no fan or breeze in a room with a sgfc. You should probably close the window if there is enough of a breeze to move a flame

is that because it causes loss of RH?

Exactly. Cakes need as much rh as you can give them. If you made your sgfc it will still get enough Fae without a breeze
