First time with Rye Berries, What went wrong here?

So I was following one of the techs here below http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=2&Number=12968927&fpart=&PHPSESSID=
Perhaps this is just a bad tek, not sure. I do plan on just using the basic soak tek that RR demonstrates in his videos next time but I'm wondering what might have gone wrong.
Basically all I did was rinse my grain with hot water. Added 3 inches of water above the grain and boiled. As soon as the water started to boil a little I started the timer for 15 mins. When the timer went off I turned the stove off and left the grain to sit with the lid on. I was using a metal crock pot, not my pressure cooker but it's essentially the same thing so I'm not sure it made a difference.
What I ended up with was a pot full of inflated grain many of which were busted and all the remaining grain was very soft. I could mush the grain in between my fingers with little force. I didn't even bother with the rest of the steps because I already knew the grain would probably turn into paste in the PC.
Has anyone else tried doing a one day grain prep? I would like to utilize this at some point, but shame on me for not sticking to the basics on my first go around with Rye.
Thanks in advance for taking a look. Picking up some more rye tomorrow I'll give it a proper go the legit way.

After 2 hours remove the lid and bring to a boil again stirring constantly. Boil for 5 minutes then place the unweighted cover back on and let sit another hour. When the hour is up bring to a boil once again. Boil for five minutes and test your grain by squeezing a couple, they should pop like a zit. If they are still hard and don't pop boil five more minutes.
did you miss this part in the directions?

I don't do rye berries but when I do RGS or WBS I measure the substrate into a bucket. then a boil the water, dump the boiling water in the bucket, let sit for a couple hours (3-24). then dump in the strainer, rinse, let strain for a couple hours then load up and pc. works like a charm everytime.

If you scroll down on that Tek you linked every one is arguing with the original poster about how if you PC grains they will expand. Safe to say its a bad tek.
I did it with popcorn once, never worked out correctly.

Nah, after the two hours I opened the lid up to check and that's when I saw that the grain had been over saturated. I didn't bother bringing it to a boil for another 5 minutes or anything, it was already ruined.
