Comprehensive Identification Guide *REQUEST*
    #18813754 - 09/08/13 01:28 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

I know of some local classes that are available, and there are some resources online (mushroom expert seems really close)

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a more comprehensive way than the mushroom expert website to help identify mushroom family/genus/species (from broad to specific).

For now i'll continue to use the mushroom expert one, but sometimes its a little hard to follow (im sure its partially my inexperience).

Does anyone know of a good place to start? Something that can be regularly updated (not books) or a very well praised book (like all that the rain promises and more, for example). I'm a very visual person and can easily follow diagrams (like a flow chart!!)

anyone know of anything like this for a beginner looking to get smart????

Mushrooms Demystified by David Arora is my Bible. I also use Wild mushrooms of Europe by Roger Philips and Psilocybin Mushrooms of the World Paul Stamets. there is no one sorce to obtain all mushroom info. I guess most of it is on this site reiterated, but searching web sites can be grueling.

I don't know how useful this would be for ids - but it appears to be current on taxonomy...???

I'm using it to refute an online chef's assertion that Gomphus clavatus is related to Cantharellus.  He's using Mushrooms Demystified.

i am indeed. I didnt register for the ID class, but i'm interested. I'm not officially part of the OMS (yet), but should be by the time the classes come around.

I've got class until ~5:00 the day of the next meeting but i'm hoping to go hunting over the weekend and bring some specimens for ID. Maybe i'll see you there!!
