Laser weapons!

I was poking around over on Atlantis earlier and saw an ad. Someone was selling "laser wristlet". Now when you see a title like that, you just have to click it and see what its all about.
The name of the builder was listed in the ad, so I looked it up. The dude has a few ideas on his site, but when I saw this....
I think that was just some of the coolest shit Ive seen in quite awhile. I doubt the range on that thing is very significant, but its still a pretty amazing step up from a CD reader.
I wonder how long it will be before the traditional firearms could be replaced with lasers or other energy weapons?

That is pretty cool. I would think the range would be pretty good, since laser light spreads out very little. Just kind of skimmed the video but is it able to do anything more destructive than popping balloons?

Uh, we can't have laser weapons without power sources hundreds of times more powerful, so that could be a long time by which we'll most likely have far more practical and efficient weaponry available and in circulation. "Laser guns" will almost certainly never be standard issue for cops and military.

Good point, but what I meant to say was as small arms/handheld weaponry. Sure, it could have anti-missile capabilities but it's pretty much useless against anything without a black paintjob (due to heat absorption and whatnot).

Your understanding of the dynamics of lasers is cute.

All the cool shit is restricted by power storage. Why don't we have nuclear batteries yet?
Ill agree with the cops and military bit though. Laser weapons need to be restricted to super heros and secret agents exclusively.

I like to think that once we get a sustained fusion reaction going energy weapons will be possible, so will powered exoskeletons and robotic support units. They wont be powered by onboard sources They'll simply be powered by an energy field radiated by the reactor the same way Tesla planned it with his Wardencliff tower. It'll be super rad, all that death and destruction.
