Can we have a serious discussion about burning man.

1 ticket was 350 dollars this year and there was 68 thousand people that went. My first problem with all this is.....that people pay a lot of money to spend a week in the desert... Most people stay away from the desert....but not white people from California........ So now that we went over that part, on to the next -----> Burning Man lasts for a week and ends with a mock sacrifice of a MAN buy burning him. Burning a man is evil, and a satanic practice. So basically all these so called hippies and new agers are paying to be apart of a ritual.........sweet....... Burning Man is also all about materialism where people shell out a ton of cash to dress up in costumes and wear colored wigs, and its all about he is cooler looking and who has a ride that is pimp. Burning Man is basically a festival for rich white people that have the money to spend a week in the desert.
WHat do you think?

With $350 I could go to two of the biggest psytrance festivals in Europe(BOOM&O.Z.O.R.A), and still have some money left.

All types of people come from all over the world to party, it's not just for rich white people lol. And 400 bucks to get into one of the biggest and baddest parties on earth for 7 days isn't expensive at all plus they also offer extremely discounted tickets for poor people.

They only release 4,000 low income tickets. I have no desire to pay any amount of money to hangout with rich white people from California.

Then don't go. It's pretty simple. 68 000 people do, so they must be doing something right.

Burning Man is an experience. Its something you do as a life bench mark. Alone, in the desert, with a bunch of other people just vibing and surviving and being silly and tripping face.
Its just like Bonnaroo. Its an experience (if youre into it). Its bartering grilled cheese sandwiches for a hand-pump shower, or a stamp of acid for three bottles of water.
Overall its pleasant, minus the days of everyone going about without a shower.

Having the means to spend a few hundred dollars on something that happens once a year doesn't make you that rich really, at least by first world standards. If you saved a dollar a day you'd have more than $350 by the same time next year.

for being one of the most unhospitable places on earth, it's a pretty nice experience if you have a theme camp to lean on and help out. it's worth it alone just to see the same people in your camp that you haven't seen in a year. the burning of man may seem like a satanic ritual to you... but it's actually a chance for us to look at ourselves and figure out where we went wrong and where we need to really be before we burn the old self and become reborn with renewed desires and passions.

I thought about going, but I'm kind of a bummer. Will I hurt the entire festival with my presence? I think I would where a bath robe with a long brown wig and a coffee mug. I've always wanted a long brown hair. I'm unhealthy sure, but I like to party. Also I have no life experience except getting loaded and working as a laborer. Maybe I can help build tents and enjoy the great activities and great vibes and great people and get some memories out of the events held at the event.
These are all good questions to ask yourself before your first quest burn. Plus just to mention, after my last burn I was chard. Head to toe with sunburns. Extreme dehydration and eyes caked with sand from the rodeo. I hear they can provide help with those issues now with water. Just remember to be safe and enjoy the burn.

The purpose of the led's is to make yourself visible in the black desert so you don't get run over by a bicycle or art car but normal society is well lit so they're not needed.

I just think it would be cool if burners left their lights on all year, or used those bikes all year. for all I know they could be considered a traffic distraction and liable for a ticket.

That's awesome, they are a for-profit company (of course) and of that they only make a few million in profit per year. They have to pay for land-use fees, fuel, artists’ grants, medical services, infrastructure, insurance, wages for a full-time staff of 37, along with eight part-time employees and several hundred seasonal workers.

i know a lot of people who have leds on their bike all the time.
I mean, to me burning man seems very not fun except for the artwork. It seems alot of people like it though. I don't like partying with those people and they almost certainly don't like partying with me.
I'm kind of bitter about the reputation of burning man, for something that seems stupid but as someone already pointed out, i guess if ur gonna compare it to bonaroo its kind of pointless to try and point out its failings.
edit: it must be a west coast thing to be like "oh i'm putting on a tutu, now i'm partying FOR REAL.

Yeah I mean if it sucks anyway, who cares how much it costs to go? I wouldn't spend my money on a Lamborghini even if I could afford it, let's have a serious discussion about how they suck really bad and people who buy them are probably jerks.

yeah, you can choose to go, go somewhere else, or stay home. nobody is forcing anybody to go(except law enforcement). I could come up with thousands of things other people do and call them lame just because I think so, and I know what's best for me...

I think it, like most festivals that grow in popularity, has grown beyond it's initial intention and feel. While I've never been and it's something I would like to do it's also something I wish I would have done 5 years ago (although I was too young then). It's like Bonnaroo or what I suspect EFF will be if it's not quite there yet. That's just what happens when things increase on popularity, they get watered down. It's inevitable.
I'm sure it's still a blast and there are so many awesome people to meet and things to do, but it does seem a bit misguided that a festival where there's no economy costs $350 to go to. I realize it's a necessity, but it hasn't always been and I think it would have been "better" then. At least different.

He may be onto something. I see far too many people here in hippie town who pay top dollar to look poor as heck
