Stuck with only one shroom - EDIT new pictures, incredible grow!
    #18811053 - 09/07/13 10:10 AM (10 years, 5 months ago)

Hello to everybody, this is my first message here!
It sounds like a noob thing and you're alright but in the last two month I've spent so many hours per day readying at this site that to me is like the most powerful mushroom library in the world.
I have used the search button of course but I did not find anything really similar to my case.
The las week I have ordered a grow kit (it is legal in my country) because I live with my parents and actually it is difficult to make the complete process to grow with a pf tek or mono tube at home without claiming attention, so please don't stress with that, I know that it will be better to experience growing without kits, and I will, but not actually :'(
Anyway, the kit is the 100% mycelium box "Cambodian" supplied by Supa Gro, it's 100% colonized BRF (I think) without vermiculite and perlite, ready to fruit, so the only thing you have to do when the package arrive is to open the lid and put it on the grow bag (that has got holes for FAE) on a shelf with indirect light at it.
That is exactly what I did.
Now I am at the 5th day with only one big shroom growing, but I don't know why...! I can see some very few little aborts around the "cake" border, but I am not really sure of what they are. Everything else seems stuck as the day  the package arrived. I can't see other mushrooms fruiting or really pinning.
I spray water on the bag's sides 3-4 times a day to keep the humidity level around 95% and I try to give FAE 4-5 times a day.

Here there are some pics:

That looks bad on so many levels. Grow kits are terrible for so many reasons, I won't even go into them. Your main issue looks like poor enviornment. RH looks low, can't tell if there are holes in the bag, but poor FAE is likely. I doubt you will see much from that. Your best hope would be to build a SGFC, put the tray in that, mist, fan, and hope for the best.

Lesson is Grow kits are crap. Do some reading, build your own, get some decent results :super: Welcome to the Shroomery!

Thank you so much my friends! The RH is always @95% but maybe you're right with the FAE. Should the normal air circulation of a room be sufficient or should I place a fan near to it to get more air?

Are you sure about that?

A SGFC works on the natural air currents in the room. Do not use a fan with a SGFC.

It looks like there is a vermiculite casing on the top.  It also looks like the mycelium needs fresh air.  I Have zero experience with this sort of grow, but from what I see, it does not look "terrible" all things considering.

I would almost treat this like a PF cake.  Give the surface a nice mist, and fan it to stimulate evaporation from the surface.  Fan it till you see no standing water.  You may have great luck moving this cake to a "Mono tub", and getting rid of the bag.
http://www.shroomery.org/10677/Monotub

Just set your tray into the bottom of a monotub.  You may still need to mist and fan.

You could continue as you are per the directions given.  The mycelium will tell you what it needs, and it looks like it certainly needs more fresh air exchange.  It looks a bit dry also.

Here is what I would do in your situation.

Keep it as is.  Mist and fan the substrate, not the bag.  Evaporation triggers pinning along with fresh air.  If you are only misting the bag, and RH% is 95%, there may be little evaporation from the substrate itself.  Try that for a few days 3 times a day.  Just my 2 cents, I hope it helps.

My first grow was a kit.
I took much more than 5 days before I saw anything at all.
I would give it at least another 5 but maybe even 9 days befor panick

Good luck

The sub is showing lots of knots but it is also looking a bit bruised and blue (probably from poor RH or FAE or both) and the surface looks very dry and unhappy. If that is just cased grain then the casing has become completely colonized which is not going to help. Putting that tray in a monotub will not work as a monotub is designed for a large sub which provides the humidity for the tub. As I said before the best bet will be for OP to construct a SGFC, mist and fan, and those knots might become pins. I'm not saying he is screwed, but fruiting in that bag is not going to be that good.

Look at the trays in my sig. Those have moisture all over the surface, and the mycellium looks healthy. The fact that the one fruit that developed for OP's tray is in the crack between the sub and tray (where there is at least a semblance of a decent micro climate) suggests that conditions are not good.

I am providing info based on first hand experience.  I have a number of small trays that fit perfectly into a small tub, and have successfully fruited a number of times in them.  By definition they are a mini-mono, and the sub fits darn near perfect.  I have had success over the last 3 months using this method.

By design a mono-tub should fit the substrate that it is holding, and I agree 100% that a large substrate needs to fit into a large tub.  A small substrate in a small tub works just as well.

I don't take many photographs, because of extreme paranoia.  Here is an example.

The tub above is in colonization.  When fruiting time comes, I turn the outside tub upside down.  This way, when it is time to harvest, I essentially lift the lid, and do not have to reach into a box to harvest fruits.  Its just a modified variation of a mini-mono.

My only mistake is that my holes are way too large.  Nothing that some duct tape can't resolve.  There is about 8 inches of headroom for the fruits to grow, and they have made use of every inch.

For a properly spawned sub in a large container/tray I'm sure putting it in a slightly larger mono would be fine. IMO however OP's tray does not look like it would be a good candidate for that.

No matter what you do, good luck OP

Did you fill it with water and let it soak to start with? Then did you drain it out?

Or did you do any of the other 2 types?

Here is a video link (part 1 {part 2&3 can be found below}) turn on English subtitles and watch all 3 videos; will take about 10 minutes. If you didn't follow those steps then that could be your problem
Link: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xcef8e_instructions-magic-mushrooms-grow-k_lifestyle

Also, if you have a link to the instructions you used that would be helpful.

If you did follow the steps on the links provided I wouldn't blame yourself.

For this type of kit you don't need to dunk for the first flush.
Here you can give a quick look to the instructions provided with it

Today after more FAE and more mist, I can see the knots pinning!
Give a look on the top left side, maybe there you can notice better.

You had knots all over the original picture. Just gotta learn to look for them. Also these guy's are encouraging you to do get the most out of your kit, so stay with the fanning and misting. Just a personal opinion, bags suck.

In that case I think you should just wait it out, if you're doing everything correctly and your work space is clean then the best thing you can do is wait.

Good luck

Next time I will try a SGFT, it seems to fit the best for me, low maintenance and easy to build.
I'll keep it up..!

Ps: what should I do with that big shroom growing much faster than the others?

That is a great question.

I am saying maybe let it grow and see. Some people might say pick it.
