Friend might be in trouble with the po-po.

This is actually a friend and not "a friend". Let's call my friend Bill, and the other person in the story can be Joe. So basically Bill gives Joe a couple of doses of an obscure research chemical, no money is actually exchanged, he just gives it to him for free.
About two weeks later Bill gets a phone call from the police department asking him to come downtown because his name came up in something. Bill goes to the police station and they say they just want to ask him a few questions but he is free to leave at any time. They show him a picture of Joe, he is in the ER with tubes and shit. Turns out Joe had an adverse reaction to the RC and had a pretty decent seizure. Joe is fine though.
The police don't actually have any of the drug, the only evidence they have is a few vague text messages. The drug itself isn't even technically illegal but it could be under the analogue act. Joe isn't pressing charges but the police say that they have to try and prosecute. That being said Bill was very cooperative and he said that it didn't seem like they wanted to waste their time on something this small, they didn't even know what the drug was, they were just calling it a designer drug.
So what do you guys think? What is the worst thing that could happen to Bill at this point?

Bill just needs to keep his mouth shut. They're sniffing around for him to screw up and admit to something so they can charge him.
That's my take on it anyways. If Bill doesn't say anything, I doubt much will come of it.

So what if Bill did something retarded like admitted to giving Joe the stuff? To me it seems like all the evidence circumstantial, even if he admitted to it what would they charge him with? They don't actually have any of the drug so they can't get him for possession. Maybe some sort of conspiracy charge?

I'm not sure what they would charge him with or if they could, but just because he walked out of the station that day doesn't mean he's free and clear.. They could be talking to the DA to figure out what/if they're going to charge him..
If he admitted to handing out a RC that could be illegal under the AA, he could of already fucked himself.
If he's got money, I'd seek out the advice of a lawyer now rather than later.
I unfortunately learned the lesson NOT to be cooperative with the police the hard way. They act like they're your friend and they just want to get it down for the record, but what they really want is a confession.. I walked out of the police station after "just going in to talk to them" and they didn't seem like they cared too much either.. Few days later I had a warrant out for my arrest.

Never speak to police under any circumstance without a lawyer. Its worth it even if they throw you in a tank and you gotta wait till the next day. specially with a situation like this, a night in jail is way better than incriminating yourself.
If they had enough to get him on they would have arrested him, they're waiting for him to phrase something wrong so they can get him on a technicality.

Hmmm. Anyone have any idea what kind of sentences they hand out for NBOMEs? Bill has a clean record btw.

In this situation it's not even so much about what the substance is since they wouldn't be able to prove it, but more so that he gave an illegal substance to someone that put them in the hospital. Very, very fucking dumb to talk to the police like that.
