Seeing how colonized mass can generate heat, I could even think that simply storing these in a plastic tub would be more than enough to avoid drafts and maintain semi-constant temp. I haven't studied that yet.
As far as heat generated by the mycelium, that is a valid concern. I never incubate bags of grains. Only jars. Bags heat up quite a bit on their own.
My favorite benefit of an incubator is consistent temps especially at night. I don't ever not incubate.
And as far as high temp range, my TIT was sitting for a month at 86F and I had exactly zero issues with the 24 master jars that were in there. They have been spawned and fruited and I can safely say that 86F works, though I see no reason to recommend it over 80F.

Has anybody tried using a drink cooler inside of a tub? It seems like it woupd maintain temps much better and you coupd put your heater on a timer.

The quote was, however I feel that Frank said something that is more broad than a simple burn against a single user. His quote encompasses the majority of the "BUT RR SAID" responses. I absolutely cannot stand some of the copy-paste responses that are dropped on a thread, with no other comments. Its much like post padding.
I was a member of Aqualink.org in the late 90s. There was a user there who had 100% of his posts as quotes from other users. Never once did he say one original thing. In my years with that forum, we never did discover if he was a bot, or a real person. I think that due to the specific nature of the many thousands of his posts, that he was a real person. Aqualink was much like Shroomery in the fact that most questions have been answered, so we post more as a social activity than as an educational one.
95% of the time I think that its more important to treat others as you wish to be treated because almost all of our posts could be replaced with a quote from someone else. The other 5% of the time someone simply has an extra chromosome, is from "down en da hollar" and lacks experience. Most of the retarded shit that gets spread around is based on an individuals lack of belief and personal experience.
Sorry, hope I didn't get too deep or off topic. Quote:

A proper made TiT should maintain temps great because of its simplicity. Heat rises from the warm water, and because the plastic is a horrible conductor of heat, it holds it in. My opinion is that the TiT is not necessary (most of the time), so complicating it further is asking for issues. Most aquarium heaters have a thermostatic control, some are automatic @ X Degrees, some have an analog dial. If you set them correct, they should shut off automatically.

You are absolutely right skippy! Well said. There is no substitute for personal experience. I have given advice and/or made comments about stuff on here before that many people disagreed with but I had seen it with my own eyes. No amount of research can teach you what getting in there and getting your hands dirty can

You just won at being a shroomery member.

As far as the water temp, you will want the 50w. It should heat in 12-24 hours. I've never had a heater break or temps get too high. It works great...just make sure to pour a lot of bleach into that water. Make it smell like chlorine
yeah im going to go exchange the water heater here in a bit, question though.
how close should the heater be to the bubble stone?
can i possible zip tie them together and set them in the middle of the tub?

I would advise against that. The element will heat the water to 80f (Or similar temp), but the element will get very hot in order to do this. NOTHING should ever touch the glass of a heater ever.

Your body temp is 98 so yeah it will feel cool.
Hot tub water is about 105 usually if that helps give you an indication

even if you have a full colonized jar sitting in room temperature it could still be contaminated even if it looks 100% healthy.
and if warmer temperatures will cause contaminants to grow more rapidly then im all for it shows me which jars i have to get rid of.
that being said. this is my first time doing grain so its all a learning experience if it turns out i dont like the TIT then ill get rid of it. but i cant give my opinion on something i have never used,
I prefer a Tit when using grains. Something about cakes, causes them to end up putting off/ generating enough heat. Grains seem to need the extra curve.

Yep, that'll do. I just use my digital temp probes that I use to pasteurize.
