im wondering if the half pint contoured jars i used are going to be an issue when birthing. you know the kind, with the irregularly shaped, triangley sides. theyre hard to describe i guess, but theyre still cylindrical.

like so.
Also, whats the liquid in spore syringes? is it just distilled water? can i store spores in just distilled water? thanks!

Those jars should work fine. It's the 8 oz jar, right? I'm not that good at ounces, pints and quarts. Spores are suspended in sterile water.

I've seen successful grows in these. I'm looking for a thread to link you to. Basically they grow exactly the same as in 'flat' jars. Are the ridges on the inside of the jar or just on the outside? If they are smooth inside the cakes should pop right out.
The only downside is that it may be more difficult to get accurate visualization of your mycelium's growth and if there is a visible contamination in a very small area it might be hard to see it before you open the jar. So yeah, the only potential problem I see is being able to distinguish smaller features of your mycelium growing but it should work fine assuming your sterile procedure is good.
If the jar is wide mouth birthing should go smooth and the cake should pop right out. Be sure to smell your jars / cakes when you open them.

It is recommended you use the half pint widemouths like the one the right of your pic. They colonize faster and fuller in most cases.
The taller ones will work fine, however. The Substrate will condense or shrink when the mycelium colonzies it so they will be somewhat smalled upon birthing and they'll have room to slide out.
Also, isnt that triangular pattern only on the outside? Just wonderin'.
Multi-spore syringes are generally made with boiled water. To my knowledge at least. So sterile not distilled

To all: at least in the ones i got , the triangles are on the inside as well. i take that back cause i actually dont remember. i canned them like 2 weeks ago :p/ but since we're on the subject , when i removed the al foil to inoculate, there was a lot of condensation on the tops of the lids (as in where the inoc holes were. therefore the tape was not fastened to the lid) . the al foil locked in a lot of moisture and eroded the tape. and im wondering if that will be a contamination problem?

Did you use 3M Micropore tape? If the dry verm layer is wet, the contaminants will have a way to travel down to the substrate through the verm barrier.
