There isn't quite enough scientific medical research as marijuana is schedule 1, but from experience after my psychedelic use cannabis starts becoming more hallucinogenic and set setting plays a key role in this infamous paranoia, its subjective though and varies person to person .

I don't get paranoid off weed unless I'm smoking it outside and that's kind of a rarity. I've been quite a heavy smoker for a good 2-3 years and I don't really feel paranoid when sober, and even when I am paranoid it's not over the top.. sometimes it's good to be paranoid and wary of your surroundings.
I think it's just propaganda although a few people I know are quite anxious now and again; not sure if it's from the bud though. It's not like you look at everyone and think they're a spy or out to get you, just loud noises and things like that make you a bit more anxious when you have a joint in your hand.

If it weren't illegal I would get noided. Just sayin. However, I do notice since I more or less quit weed and only smoke it on very rare occasions, it makes me super paranoid when I do. I think it's one of those threshold effects that actually goes away the more you smoke. Unless of course you have an underlying condition.

For me, when i first started smoking, I would never get anxious or paranoid. I could smoke as much as I wanted and not worry about anything, but that has definitely changed. There are times when I get pretty bad anxiety from smoking. Certain strains are worse than others and I do find that set and setting are becoming more and more important when I smoke. My mindset at the time of smoking is what is most important. I would say for some people, the paranoia and anxiety does get worse over time. I also know people who never feel anxious. I find that It's kind of hit or miss.
PS: I have been smoking for roughly 3 years now and have only a full month tolerance break and the occasional few day breAks in that time period.

I smoked nearly constantly for four or so years and the paranoia never really got any better or worse, and was always there. Then I quit everything for like 8 years. Now when I (very rarely) smoke I get it really bad, ranging from tolerable to very anxiety producing depending on the setting. Something about it... Just not much fun anymore.

Lol so true. I've been smoking constantly for 3 years at first I was a little paranoid. Now I am never paranoid even when I smoke outside with people around. I really think it depends on the person. Hopefully it won't return but I guess itl be an experiment lolz

In my experience, marijuana started to give me horrible paranoia, only when high, after about 18 months of smoking, a year of that being up to 3x/week max. And after this had started it just got progressively worse, until now, when I don't even want to smoke. The only time I use is when I'm drunk and out of my friends volcano, which gives me a nice light, clean feeling high to compliment the alcohol.
I found a description once that fit me perfectly (when high ofc): inward, anxious and socially awkward. Three things I'm the opposite of when sober.

Try Siberian ginseng (Eleuthero root) with your herb if this is becoming an issue.
It is safe to use daily and IME adds an easy warmth to the high; as well as clarity and presence. I feel a loving glow on this combination. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/14898265

The amygdala, which makes up a part of the brain, is said to be the main region of the brain that is linked to fear and anxiety. As sources would have it, it is believed that thoughts of fear, paranoia, and/or depression-etc., has to do with the fact that there is an imbalance/over activity of the amygdala. This imbalance and/or over activity of the amygdala is due to a zinc definciency.
So, the question is, how can this be fixed? It is suggested that herbal supplements as such as Kava Kava, Siberian ginseng, licorice, and/or valerian root can help reduce an over active amygdala
-http://forums.webmd.com/3/anxiety-and-panic-disorders-exchange/tip/108
If that reading is true; then perhaps supplementing with natural sources of Zinc would help curb the issue: http://www.newsmax.com/FastFeatures/best-sources-of-zinc/2011/02/09/id/370378

I have anxiety issues when I get hit with a depressive state due to my manic depressive. Pot completely destroys any anxiety I end up getting, and reduces the depressive state I can end up in.

Yeah, I tend to agree with others on this thread perhaps long-term smoking has led to increased anxiety while high but I've become less and less paranoid over the years and the anxiety is only present if I let it be. In my opinion weed is just like any other psychedelic it's all what you make of it.

I've been smoking it on an almost daily basis for 4 years or so, and never had any problem.
Then I had a mushroom trip that really pushed me to the edge of sanity, and now whenever I smoke weed, I get paranoid about my sanity.
Like I'm examining how others react to me suddenly while high, or I'll examine my mental images and come to the conclusion that they make no sense at all, and that's when I get really paranoid that something's wrong with me.
I feel better when I get sober, though.

Harrishroom said: Hello all, while reading threads on here I notice a lot of people say they used to smoke cannabis a lot, but don't anymore. And on top of that, they usually say the reason is because it was making them paranoid.. I'm new to smoking (a couple months, a few times a week), I never get bad paranoia, just a bit more cautious about mundane things. So has anyone noticed that the more often and longer they've been smoking, the negative side affects get worse..? Idk maybe I'm crazy, it just seems like a lot of people stop after a long time because of the infamous paranoia. Does this paranoia start to transfer into the sober life? I'm not having a problem, the thought just crossed my mind and interested me. Thanks for any input.
When I turned into a predominant positive person my paranoia went away. I just find weed a waste of time now .

Literally ive never gotten paranoia from marijuana I guess it really does differ from person to person
i think the marijuana experience is far too enjoyable to let paranoia get in the way, a lot of is just psychological stuff
ive heard it can be reduced quite a bit with meditation (amazing with pot) idk, i dont have any room to say anything because i havent had paranoia

Imagine having a good time smoking with your friends after a long week of work/school, and then your friendly neighborhood police officer walks by and gives you a hard time. Potential court dates, fines, and your name just gains that much more awesome reputation.
It can affect finding jobs, finding a college, or maybe even your view on life - that something so bad could happen just because something on a piece of paper says you did something society doesn't prefer.
I smoke weed, and I do get nervous. "Because the world is fucked up and I'm a product of what I'm seeing."
I smoke weed in unsafe settings, as carefully/safely as I can. Does that make me paranoid? Shit I can't tell from my perspective lol
