If Einstein had never lived,

then somebody else would have have eventually figured out the physics of special and general relativity, brownian motion, the photo-electric effect, and all the other numerous contributions he made to physics and our (presumably) collective knowledge of the how the natural world works.
If Isaac Newton had never lived then Leibniz would be the "founder" of calculus. (If I remember correctly, Leibniz's notation is more widely used that Newton's anyway)
How fucking small do I feel right now? Pretty fucking small. Is it possible to not have enough hubris? Is a bit of hubris a good thing? Should I post this somewhere other than the Pub?
My life is meaningless. Completely meaningless. I could never make a contribution that wouldn't eventually be made by somebody else. If Einstein and Newton are as irrelevant as I am, then by golly, why even try?
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go check on an experiment to make sure that the building isn't burning down. I've graduated from drinking wine by the glass to drinking it by the bottle.
fuck you nobody is going to reply to this anyway.

I'm sure Einstein felt unappreciated for most of his life.

lol why are people so preoccupied with "making a difference" or "doing something meaningful"
You have the ability to experience joy and only a finite amount of time to experience it, the purpose of life seems pretty clear to me

This is a great point.
Not everyone can make contributions like Einstein, Newton etc so there's no need to look at it like you're meaningless; life shouldn't be looked at like that
Are you depressed by any chance

perhaps if einstein hadn't gotten in the way, someone wouldve come along and utilized the untapped power of poop energy. then we could all be driving around in our poop-powered cars and listening to pooppods

Lord god almighty. It's an abyss . A frightful dark abyss. The void is only a few kilometers above our heads. Jesus fuck how am I not supposed to think about that. The sun burns my eyeballs every day. It's fucking beautiful. The Milky Way is horrible. Fucking grotesque and horrible, but when I see it I can't look away.

Quite the contrary, OP. Wether you amount to anything in life, or not, or I do, or dont, we all contribute to the findings of tomorrow. We make tomorrow possible, even if we dont do anything at all.
Imagine if Einstein was killed in a car accident before he did any contributions to society. Whoever killed him would have changed the world. Same way you can. You might have a kid one day, who might have another kid, who then pursued biochemical studies and cured cancer. That wouldnt have been possible without you, OP.
Theres so many daily variables but in the end, everything we do will fuel tomorrow and the continuation of our species.

World War 2 might have ended differently if Einstein wasn't born.

I've thought of this before. Basically a shit ton of Europe being the United States. I shudder at the thought.

I think WW2 was a bifurcation point in history. It was like a fork in the road. I've also thought about this. Time is a strange thing.

Einstein was far from perfect, he was basically an asshole to his own family and this is the man who urged the development of the atomic bomb, which a couple of decades later almost resulted in WW3. He also did most of is relevant work in his youth and spent the rest of his life living off his fame but achieving nothing. http://www.2ubh.com/features/Einstein.html

This is kinda nonsense. Einstein left a unique imprint on the sciences. Perhaps similar advancements would have been made in similar fields, but certainly not the same advancements. IMO there are many ways to describe and predict events, what we have is only one of many possible models.
