Monotub colonization

What is the time frame for monotub colonization? Based on my research it should be up to 14days. It has been 11 days and I'm only half way there. The recipe is as follows: 1brick Coir 1quart Verm 1quart Spent coffee 4-5quarts Water 4quarts Colonized rye(B+)
Cheers

Unless you properly pasteurized and didn't do the bucket tek you don't want a full quart of spent coffee in there.

Depends on the spawn/sub ratio, genetics, and environmental factors. Mine usually take about 6-8 days, but I spawn at a fairly high ratio.
Ditto on the coffee thing. Unless you're going to properly pasteurize your substrate, leave the coffee out.
Your tub could be contaminated, but it could be just fine. Keep an eye on it

But the bucket tek seemed to be so convenient I don't see any visible contams such as mean greens, or cobweb; I didnt take the lid off btw, its my eagle eye.lol So hopefully it's just colonizing slow. Makes me nervous thou

Coffee requires proper pasteurization, which the bucket tek is not.
Your spawn ratio is a bit low compared to what I use. I usually use bucket tek with 1 brick coir, 2 qts verm and 4.5 qts water to 6 quarts of Spawn.
Colonization time is 10-14 days.
If your substrate is too wet it could take longer.

Here's a picture. Be the judge. I agree with the low spawn ratios theory.

Yeah I would recommend using no less that 5 qts of spawn. I prefer 6. No need for the coffee. The bucket tek can work just fine if all you use is coir/verm and a high spawn ratio. If you go adding things like coffee and use a low spawn ratio then your chance for failure sky rocket using the bucket tek.
I personally believe that colonizing at the lower end of the acceptable temperture range (68 to 70) is also helpful at keeping contams at bay when using the bucket tek

your ratio is about 1:3 so it may take a little longer

no casing layer. Just coir/verm/coffee/spawn all mixed together

It doesn't look too promising. See how the myc is puffed up in places and it looks like it is not wanting colonize certain places at all. These are both bad signs. Just wait and see what happens I reckon

It looks suspect, I agree. I'm gonna do some coir/verm(no coffee this time) tomorrow. I'll try to do proper pasteurization too and increase the spawn ratios. I'll still wait another 5days max thou to see how it's gonna play out.

That sounds like a great plan to me

Yeah I feel like it's fighting something you can't see, either a white mold or bacterial contam is my guess. No use waiting it out though, but toss it/spawn it outside at the first sign of contam.
