Excellent! Pans for me were a different beast from cubes, far more fragile and particular. I do feel that having a few fails trying to pull these off was good for me. Forced me to rexamine everything I was doing and hopefully I learned something along the way

Out of pure curiosity, what were your own failures / realizations when trying to grow them before?

I did a few dumb things that would have been ok with cubes, but I'm pretty sure screwed me with pans. A few things that I'm pretty sure screwed me were;
-Too low of spawn ratio. I recommend 1:1 or 1:1.5 at the most. -Sub too thick. I found that the spawn run generates a lot of heat. I am confident that a sub thicker than 1.75" can be generating too much heat, unless your doing a really big tray or monotub. For my little glad trays, the sub is only an inch deep. -Shaking is iffy. I have had them recover, but also stall. -The sub must be very fluffy when spawning. I always thought I left my subs airy enough when doing cubes, but pans seem to need more. Proper field capacity is a must.
I ain't outta the woods yet though I will only consider this a success when I'm

Well i had a sparse first flush, followed by an equally sparse second flush. Didn't keep the tray around long enough to see a third as I needed space but I did get a couple clones outta the deal. All in all I chalk it up to a good learning experience that at least yielded some clones. I have a few ideas to improve my results next time for sure. This was the only other pic of the grow I took.

Pretty weak stuff, but I ain't done with this species yet I now have 6 pan varieties that I am going to go balls to the wall on in the next few months, just gotta wrap up few of my cube experiments. I do plan to try things like; LC, hpoo cakes, straight cased grains, bags, mini monos, and a few other ill advised experiments cause that's how I roll

I cant wait to see all the experiments with ALL of those varieties! So, do you have 6 different species?? Or something like 3 species with 3 different strains (i.e. cambodgeniensis vars. goliath and sandoze)? Not sure I could come up with 6 species: cyans, tropicalis, cambo, cinctulus, bisporus, ??
I have cyan and cambo and plan on trying a couple of different experiments myself: mini mono, straight straw, straw w/ hpoo, maybe hpoo cakes as I recently saw some successful ones. I am definitely planning on my first attempt using grains spawned to hpoo then casing in small trays and sgfc as that seems to be the standard. I just got a horse manure hookup today! Interesting story: finally went to the stables down the street and asked about getting some and the owner told me that because he has 30 something horses that they're treated for worms which wrecks the manure for growing anything to be consumed by humans (or other animals). He said that he had some guys take some manure for an earthworm farm (dumb and dumber? haha) and the manure killed all the worms But that super cool guy got me in touch with a lady he knows with one horse that she doesnt treat for worms and I can have all that I want!!
Anyway, I'm a completely new and hoping I can pull some of this off, haha. Did my first agar transfers from a clone today to give you an idea of where I'm at. I will be watching to see what you get into and what works!
p.s. I love the J5 bear in your first post!

Can't believe I missed your grow Pasty.
My opinion on a pan grow is if you've produced prints to keep going then you've been successful.
Nice grow.

Thanks guys, I feel that I learned a lot with this attempt, and I can't wait to get my next experiments underway. Definitely gonna try some hpoo cakes MacMerdin
