Ordered a shiitake syringe from the spore depot two days ago and he threw in a free nameko syringe. Honestly this is the first time I've ever heard of this species
now I did use the search engine and researched all about fruiting and whatnot but I can never find out if I inoculate grains then transfer that to supplemented sawdust blocks, or if i just inoculate straight to the sawdust blocks?

Use the same thing that you would with the shiitake. It will work fine.

no, it doesn't taste good.
. It tastes GREAT! The reason it's not popular in America is the layer of snot that forms on them.
Also don't case them, the snot layer will cause the casing material to stick.

Nope. This might help. I was just researching this myself, I'll be trying them soon as well...

Yeah, it does sound a little tough!
That's the cool thing about free cultures, they get us to try something we'd otherwise just be like... Nah!
Good luck to you too.

I got the same free syringe. I put a little on agar plates, and it's growing really fast. Not quite as fast as the reshi i got from them, but i'm still impressed.
I also did a search on google, and got a lot of pic of goombas from mario brothers. so, now that is my new nickname for nameko.

yes mine is pretty fast on agar but it's slower on grain. I'm excited to try this one out too!

I was considering putting it to agar first to but eh, my agar is better used elsewhere until I get a good tissue sample to clone.

You've already got an isolated culture, no need to clone

going from LC to agar is the best way to preserve the vigor of a culture, because it hasn't had as many cellular divisions. and it's easier to avoid contams than a clone i reckon.
