Well it could be, but A. augustus would not be my first guess for this collection.

A. augustus usually has a stipe that is smooth above the ring and shaggy below.  Do you see that feature?

What does it smell like, and what kind of trees were nearby?  Any staining reactions when bruised?

I said stipe, not stripe.

Plants have stems and mushrooms have stipes.  Same thing, only different.

Does it bruise brown immediately, or some time after it was scratched?

That species stains yellow.    Not a bad guess though.    Could even be correct.

stipe  (stp)
n.
A supporting stalk or stemlike structure, especially the stalk of a pistil, the petiole of a fern frond, or the stalk that supports the cap of a mushroom.

The stipe seems pretty thick though.  The ones that I've found that are huge dont have stipes that big around.  I dunno!
