Ive got a few simple questions, all im looking for is the answer.
1. would it be better for me to go to houston as compared to dallas for hunting ? (considering the conditions are right..)
2. would i be better off in cow fields as compared to looking in different mulch / flower beds / grass yards / apartments
3. If i were to buy mulch to promote the growth of active shrooms, what type would be the best option? Is it possible to just put some mulch out in the hard under a tree and water mist it every so often at night when the temp is cooler than what it is now.. would it be better to buy organic manure ? type of mulch?
4. Is it common or very rare to find shrooms that are active in the wilderness in texas ?
5. If i find a field and look at 5 piles of shit and none of them have any shrooms, (considering it just rained the day before) should i move onto a whole nother field or continue to walk the same field in hope to eventually see one ?
6. Is there any way to help promote the growth of shrooms outdoors?
7. Is it rare to find an active shroom in a highly maintained yard?? or would they more likely be in the flower bed ? or under a tree?
hopefully someone will take the time to anwser this stupid questions.. i know its gotta be simple to someone who knows a little more about them.. so thanks in advance..
sorry for the noob questions,

1. Don't ask locations. Against the rules 2. See http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/12412007 3. Um... What? I am guessing you are asking about manure not mulch... Seperate things... You could put out manure but why not go find cow patties ... Cheaper Still need spores to have mushrooms ... You can have all the poo you want but no mushrooms. 4. Um... wilderness in texas? Oxymoron statement? What do you mean by wilderness? 5. See 2 above 6. Yes 7. See 2 above
If you want my advice.... Find out what mushrooms grow in your area. Find out their habitat, season and growing conditions.... look for them in the right habitat and the right weather/season
At the bottom of this forum is a cool feature called Search http://www.shroomery.org/forums/postlist.php/Board/3
I bet if you put Texas in there, you can find some info you can use.
And here is some more good resources http://www.shroomery.org/12311/Hunting-FAQ
Good luck and happy hunting!!!

Depends on what you are looking for. If you are trying to find mushrooms that have drugs in them, you will be much better off in Huston. I do not think Psilocybes or pan cyans grow in the DFW area.

Depends on what you are looking for. If you are trying to get high, the answer is YES.

Something with lots of composted manure. If you do not add anything, your chances of success are about 1 in 5000. If you add spores, your chance of success are 1 in 100. If you add spawn, your chances of success go up dramatically.

Depends on what part of Texas. Texas is a large state with many different habitats. Search this forum, or check the mushroomobserver.org distribution maps for cubensis and pan cyans.

Keep checking it until you find what you want, or until you are convinced that there are none.

6. Is there any way to help promote the growth of shrooms outdoors?
Yes! Many ways! The easiest way is to take the mushrooms that you like, and carry them to fresh substrate and put them there. You can put a cube to print on top of a pile of manure, or a stem butt, or feed fresh cubes to cows that live in a field that you want to visit in the field.
Today I found a big cluster of Psilocybe caerulescens that was really dirty. http://mushroomobserver.org/144713 ; Instead of leaving it there, I picked it up and threw the caps at all the old rotten logs I saw. I also pried open the old rotten logs and put the stems inside. This will probably create 20 new patches, next year or at some other point in the future.

Of those three choices, your best chance is to find Panaeilus cinctulus in a well maintained and watered yard, growing directly from the grass, usually in the places where the grass is greenest.
If you have more questions do not hesitate to ask. Also check the forum rules though, as your post may not exactly conform strictly to all of them...
