wtb opinions on casing

first off, lots of info i've read through on casing layers here. i realize that often times old info is outdated quickly.
i'm looking for current suggestions from active members who have experience with casing layers.
i have 12 pints of tampanensis sclerotia that have been growing for 4 months. i'm preparing to harvest the stones and fruit the rye berries. i decided on 50/30/20 poo/coir/verm for bulk ala stonesun.
is the grain rehydration still 10-20 minutes pre spawning? recommended fruiting temps? preferred casing recipes and teks? mini mono vs. SGFC?

I love Jiffy Mix for casing - it's cheap too, $3.97 for 10 quarts. Seems highly contam resistant.

I rehydrate per Frank Horrigans "Dunk your grains before spawing" thread.
I fruit at the same temp as I do cubes.

excellent. i was hoping you'd chime in. this project is from the print you sent me
how do you gauge your moisture lvl in casing mix? also do you sterilize it?
sorry in advance, first time trying casing and i'm in micro manage mode.

Awesome!
I don't really follow a "Tek" regarding Jiffy Mix pasteurization (even though I should). The first time you open it, right out of the bag, it's already pasteurized; I saturate to field capacity - couple drops when I squeeze it in my fist.
Frank has a good pasteurization Tek, plus I'm pretty certain he has experimented with Jiffy Mix as a casing too; so he's a great source.

yep using franks tek to past my sub as we speak. i was just hoping to not have to past casing again later today.
do you take any precautions with the grains when you are removing the stones? ie: do it in SAB or alcohol wiped gloves? i was planning on just dumping out a couple jars at a time into a small plastic tub and digging through them. then after stones were out putting some sub in there and mixing then transferring to my trays. if it's anything like spawning to mono's i shouldn't need to worry too much, but therein lies the problem, i just don't know.

Nope, I just keep my hands really clean (alcohol wash, then rinse with hot water). But it's good practice to use gloves.

do you case at 100% or at spawning? and what depth of casing?
here is some pics of a few jars of mine.

Damn - the stones look huge! What sub is that, grains? Don't worry about the appearance, tampanensis looks really discolored after it's been sitting in a jar for months (always looks different than cube mycelium)

rye berries. they are in pint jars, that might make them seem larger. i'm not worried about the mycelium color. some of the stones are starting to get a greenish tinge where they have been pressing against the glass.

I rehydrate per Frank Horrigans "Dunk your grains before spawing" thread.
I fruit at the same temp as I do cubes.
I love Jiffy Mix as well. I have however realized the "organic" is not buffered as well as the regular. I use it straight outta the bag then mist to desired capacity cuz im lazy like that. Love Jiffy Mix Seed Starter mix for casing.

what do you mean by buffered?
do you case at 100% or at spawning? and what depth of casing?

The ingredients in this casing mix are peat and verm buffered with calcium or limestone because peat is fairly acidic. (why is acidity a factor, or buffering beneficial? topic for a new thread)
Casings are generally applied to a bulk substrate after it is 100% colonized. In the case of casing straight grains, they can be cased as soon as they are transferred into trays for fruiting.
For cubes I prefer a casing depth of about 1/4 inch. A lil more or a lil less is fine.
After I apply the casing to my suiting, I cover the tray/tub/container with foil. (I hate plastic wrap) Then I continue "incubation" of the cased bulk until I see tiny peices of threadlike myc barely poking through evenly on about 80% of the tray/tub. If an area gets covered with myc, or otherwise over colonized- I apply a little more casing mix (this is called patching), and let the rest of the tray catch up.
When tiny threads of myc are poking through the top of the casing layer as described above- I fruit it
