I just watched World War Z
    #18806279 - 09/06/13 05:52 AM (10 years, 5 months ago)

:justnotright:

First of all, it bore very little resemblance to the book that made me look forward to see the movie in the first place. Its like being promised strawberries and being given lego bricks.

Second, the story there was (WWZ it was not) was awkwardly cut short at the end and lacked at least a full hour of movie. You cant go from a slow-and-personal to a lightning quick birds eye view of a global situation being resolved then fade to black. Thats a TV Movie kind of trick.

It was definitely fun to watch and better than most zombie movies but WWZ it was not.

Thank god I only paid 850 megabytes for it :cookiemonster:

Sooo.. any zombie movies worth watching that y'all can recommend?

To give you an idea of my favorites:

Night of the living dead (original)
Zombi 2  (by Fulci)
The Horde (Belgian delight)
REC (Spanish original)
Dawn Of The Dead (remake)
28 Days After (best of British)
28 Weeks After (plain awesome)

It's the first movie since 1989 that I wanted a refund for.

If you read the book or the zombie survival guide he wrote do not watch this movie.

I was really looking forward to that movie until everyone started telling me how much it sucked, I don't even want to buy the blu-ray in case I don't want to keep it. I'd watch it if someone put it on for free for sure though.
I'm glad that the dawn of the dead remake made it on your recommendations, one of my favourites.

I'm going to recommend The Living Dead At Manchester Morgue, an English classic from the golden age of horror, the 70s.

I believe Alex Jones wants a refund too..

Its watchable but its the most epic misleading advertizing ever to call it World War Z because its completely different at almost all key aspects.

I live in Holland and downloading for personal use is legal here, an other reason for loving this lil country :cookiemonster:

I consider it the best zombie movie ever made.

I really enjoyed the movie but I haven't read the books. My wife couldn't understand why everyone talks bad about the movie either until I pointed out that it's a film adaption of a book (or supposed to be anyways).

I was pretty much on the edge of my seat the whole movie, a good sign for any horror movie and something that hasn't really happened in many years.

As for movie that isn't on your list, Pontypool was pretty interesting.

wow, out of romero's movies you only watched night of the living dead? this man just nails my taste in zombie movies.

his movies in order:

dawn of the dead (cult classic)
day of the dead (totally different atmosphere. good movie too.)
land of the dead (cant remember it too well, but it was ok)
diary of the dead (not the best critical reception, 5.8 on imdb, but actually one of my favourite zombie movies ever. LOVED it.)
survival of the dead (havent watched yet...)

edit: eh ok, you listed your favourites, so i guess you did watch some of the romero movies.

I agree that the movie was entertaining. It was all action, no plot. Mindless fun.

28 days later tops my list.

I didn't know you were Dutch, Wiccan. The most memorable week in my entire life was being in Amsterdam for the gay games in 1998.

Yup Dutch!
Actually I liked 28 weeks better than 28 days.  Dont get me wrong 28 days kicks ass as a first person zombie movie but 28 weeks documents well and realistically the societal response to a zombie apocalypse, and the general mayhem of society coming apart by a growing mass of zombies is interesting to watch too.

Off to watch Diary of the Dead now

I love 28 days later and the sequel. Not really into zombie movies, but those were bad ass. Movies can never due a greatly written book any justice IMO

OH! if you like zombie shows, check out dead set! its pretty good.

I thought WWZ was a time killer. That's it. Entertaining in spots, but no more so than any other zombie flick. My friend came out of the theater acting like it was one of the best films of the past 10 years, lmao

Diary was an instant favorite the first time I saw it.  It has everything a genre fan could possibly want, including seeing the outbreak actually start with the first zombie which is the only time it happens in the Romero zombieverse.  Classic.
But the original NotLD is my favorite.  I'll go against the grain and say I didn't like the DotD remake.  It had a couple good moments but it's pretty low on the Romero totem pole for me.  Not as bad as Survival or the Day of the Dead remake.  The DayotD remake was :suicide:

1.  Night (original)
2.  Diary
3.  Dawn (original)
4.  Day (original)
5.  Night (remake)
6.  Dawn (remake)
7.  Land
8.  Survival
9.  Day (remake)

I tried to stream it a few times but I couldn't make it more than 35 minutes in, it was too stupid. I read and thought the book was great.

Try Shaun of The Dead, it's not serious/what you're looking for, but it's a good movie

I'm fairly convinced he's a comedian. I'm almost convinced he's bill hicks with plastic surgery.

Unfortunately, he's not trying to be funny. He is just the worst kind of human.
