You have two weeks off in November and a grand to spend....
    #18805862 - 09/05/13 11:59 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

What would you do?

I'm in the PNW and am willing to travel anywhere around north america, the caribbean or hawaii.

I havent really seen much of the states so I think a roadtrip down the west coast would be sweet provided the weather is still semi decent. It would be awesome to get some hiking/national parks done. Im also open to sitting on a beach for two weeks drinking cold beer. Could be tempted to hit up an event or a festival but I havent heard of anything happening in shitty november.

Would would you do?

dude, take the train south somewhere.  i bid, six flags, then, bus it futhur south to the sunshine for a great show of some sort.  the train back north.  money spent.  if you haven't taken the train from say portland to LA, round trip $250-300, give or take, very much worth the beautiful scenes rolling through.

Ive always wanted to check out the bay area and san fransico, I'd love to plot my trip around a good show or gig and go from there. Do you happen to know anything good happening in November? I gotta check out some kinda catch all gig listing website

would have to dig around the events for the month like you would.  the train is rad.  do know of a $50/night hotel downtown.  that price for a reason.  or, there is a hotel a stones throw to the beach at the end of golden gate that was $100 and nice.

just an idea.  $1000 seems as could be a good weekend in the city.  could stretch that a bit more elsewhere.  you get what you pay for.

I try to tell this to anybody and everybody, and have probably said it a zillion times on this site alone. But I gotta keep suggesting it because it's that epic.

Go to Jackson Hole WY. One of the most amazing little towns on the planet IMO that's rarely ever talked about. It's a 5 star ski resort in winter, and just as spectacular in summer -- and it would only be the start of your trip.

10 miles down the road from it is Grand Teton National Park. Camping on an utterly spectacular scale. 15,000 foot peaks right on top of you, the sheer volume of stars in the sky rivals what you would see in Alaska, and you could to set up tent in a land shared by grizzly bears and grey wolves. Epic.

Then after that drive another 50 miles north and hit Yellowstone National Park.

It really is one of the more amazing places on the planet. I wish everybody could at least see it once.

Wow some epic pics there, Im a sucker for natural beauty and will definitely visit those places for sure. I'm not sure if november is the best time of year to see em though, looks like its pretty cold at yellowstone by then. That town Jackson Hole looks pretty cool

Oh yeah shit lol I overlooked the November part

Yeah November's probably a bad idea

Plus the roads are closed by then in the park. But yeah, Jackson in winter would be amazing. I've only been during the summer months though.

Buy some coke or heroin, take half, cut the half for a headstash and a return of your $1k. Or double it up and make more. Always people out there stomping shit. Buy weed or acid or cactus whatever with profits.

lmao

I lived in that hellhole for 2 years and change. It was like living on the moon. Desolate, arid landscape, looked like the fucking desert except in winter it could dip to minus 30 fahrenheit. Half the residents there were either methed out or drunk as shit by like lunch. Lol how do you know about Rock Springs Gilgamesh

Visited Jackson Hole last year during the summer and let me tell you, the cost of living there is unbelievable. Expect to pay $20 a plate no matter where you eat. It was pretty, but it was a 5 day adventure that cost the same as 12 days for me and my girl skiing in Crested Butte

That's why you just skirt it 15 miles down the road into Grand Teton National Park! Set up camp, grill, and soak in that epic scenery!

:solidnod:

We did stay a couple of nights there at Teton Village Ski Resort in Jackson Hole at Hotel Terra, we wanted the whole 5 star hotel experience in Jackson (at least a little bit of it). Per night at Terra for our room was $350, which is very high for just a hotel room -- but in winter during ski season that same room we got at 350 was doubled at 700 and change. Unreal. And those people eat those rooms up in winter, too.
