ive heard adding a bay leaf or a few peppercorns to the bag after uve dried ur (shiitake) mushrooms helps to absorb any residual moisture. Is this true? now before asking my second retarded question let me preface it by saying that i hav OCD and so i seek perfection in everything i do and im also a detail-loving freak! Now with that being said, wat kind of peppercorns wud be good for drying mushrooms? i mean there are so many varieties, from black to green to pink! ?

Why not just use a small silica gel packet?

Your punctuation, grammar, and spelling suggest otherwise... but you shouldn't have a problem with any leftover moisture inside the fruit if dried correctly . Just don't put them in any sealed plastic bags or containers. Try a brown paper bag, or let them finish drying

isn't putting them in a sealed plastic bag or container the best way to get all the moisture out using silica gel packets / damp-rid type chemicals?

Why do you need silica packets or damp rid if you dried them correctly?
I dry all of mine under a box fan w.o any problems. Why is this so hard?

some people, myself included are unable to dry inside their homes for various reasons. be it they don't want family members to see the drying process and a bunch of mushrooms sitting out with a big fan blowing on them or whatever. some people are forced to dry in garages, or sheds, where the humidity would never let them get completely dry. this is where the chemical drying process comes in and is helpful. its not that people don't understand the process of fan drying its that its not always practical for everyone.

Because a box fan is not going to get them 100% cracker dry of you have any sort ambient humidity.
