Need Help Raising a Baby Sage
    #18798840 - 09/04/13 11:32 AM (10 years, 5 months ago)

I received a baby Salvia Divinorum plant today!
It came through mail and is a little beat up from the journey.

I would like some advice on how to turn the sad lad into a happy chap.

Here are some pictures:

The main issues are:

- Wilting (how much water?)
- Broken leafs (should I cut them or leave them?)
- Brown edged leafs

I'd like to hear some perspectives on how to get this plant back on track

For now its sitting in my bathroom (shade & moistness) and I made its soil nice and moist.

Cheers!

O, all the plants I have ever had have died.

But somehow I am more motivated to look after them as long as they are ethnobotanical so I am putting all my efforts and love into this one to change the trend.

From what I've gathered from others here, it needs humidity. Consistently. Not just the soil being moist, but a moist humid environment.

Yeah, the move to the bathroom already fixed her up MASSIVELY. I now trust she'll be allright.

Did it came in the container or did it came in a tube?
If it came in a container I think i know where you got it, if that's the case it will survive. A friend of one ordered one in a container(from a sponsor here) and it's growing great (West-europe).

Never buy the Salvia D. plants that come in a tube! Everyone I know who ever had one of those had it dead within two weeks. Even people who normally have quite of a green thumb

Do you mean like the test tube ones that are sitting on agar gel?
Mine came in a box, it was photographed right after unpacking it.

I was thinking of ordering an Iboga shoot in a test tube though, as that is the only way (besides seeds) to get one as far as my research has gone so far. Probably go for the seeds then...

Then i know where you ordered, it's a great company. Me and a few friends all are very satisfied with them. My friends salvia grow really fast.

I have no idea on the iboga in the test tubes. They might actually do better in it then salvia, I think they are a tad hardier.
Salvia is a bit of a delicate plant.

Yeah the company I ordered at is awesome. I would have never ordered a live plant from a vendor if I didn't have such awesome experiences with them already. They even put random freebies with your order sometimes

It's really good that they sell the salvia in containers. They harden their plants off themselves, making them much hardier then the test tubes one.

My tissue cultured Salvia came in a tube with agar. I've had it for around 2,5 years now. It was kind of hard at the beginning to acclimatize the plant to its new environment, but it managed to survive. It was never an impressive plant though, so I think GoldenEye is better off with his hardened off plant.

I always water my Salvia plant with bottled water, because we have very hard tap water around here (water that has high mineral content). In my experience, Salvia is very sensitive to hard water. I had to rinse the roots and repot my brittle Salvia to save it from certain death. It shed all its leaves but recovered after the repotting.

Good tip, I think my water is relatively hard as well.

Same here, really hard water. Thanks for the tip!
