So I saw this ads below:
"LAST CHANCE AT THIS PRICE. fumigation will have to be done soon if not sold this week and that will make price go up . GET NOW. wheat for sale $.16 cents per pound ( in tote 2500 lbs +),just harvested , good chicken feed and good for pigs just soak in water a few days and feed . Much cheaper than buying feed at the feed store and healthy feed than corn, let me know asap. opportunity to buy direct from farmer .Please get soon , if i deliver to warehouse i will have to charge more . Get it ASAP at ranch . anything under 1 ton (2000lbs) is .20 cents per lb, thanks ,1 tote can hold 2500 lbs . TODAY -8/23/13 NOW only have partial 2# - 1000lb ,and 2 unweighed totes left on farm. Don't Procrastinate any longer ,now is the time to get it for now and winter won't have it much longer will sell to warehouse soon . thanks -just trying to help us small farmers /ranchers/ home growers out."
My question is if he fumigate these seeds then can I still use them to grow mushrooms? Or is the fumigation process is to preserve these seeds longer? Also, is this a good price for the fresh wheat berries?

What's he fumigating with? 20 cents is a good price in my opinion, depends on your location.

"photoxine , don't know if that is the correct spelling, . all food or grain type warehouses use this , it actually doesn't go on the grain just the air around it."
Here is what he said about the chemical. Not sure if it is safe that I cannot find much infos on the net search. But I know what goes up must come down, esp. in the surrounding air. He said it is for killing the weevils. Just the word 'toxin' made me cautious already.

I couldn't find anything, but I did find this on grain fumigation published by Dow chemical: http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/jf60135a022
and this warning from Dr. Mercola on the hazards of that chemical on grains. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2013/09/08/water-fluoridation.aspx?e_cid=20130908Z1_SNL_Art_1&utm_source=snl&utm_medium=email&utm_content=art1&utm_campaign=20130908Z1
Sounds like it's not a good idea to mess around with these fumigants.

Guess, I will skip the wheat this time. It is better to buy the WBS here which is safer. Not necessarily the cheapest but almost the same as wheat price. Thanks for your support.

I never use wbs because I can get cheap rye, you might want to consider that since wbs is not edible to humans that standards for chemical fumigants etc. might be more relaxed.

You are lucky to get cheap rye. I don't see any advertised on the net. Do they sell at the farm store too? WBS: I'm thinking calcium carbonate is safe for the birds and humans too. If it is poisonous then the birds would die as well. You are right that they don't fumigate WBS thinking they're only for the birds. The millet can be ground to a flour or cook for millet soups. And the sorghum can be grounded to flour or brewed to make wine. The color is red sorghum wine. Then the wheat can be cook to make soup or ground to a paste much like pancake after adding the water. I think people will eat them when they are hungry if running low on foods. I am still experimenting with WBS now. One time I put some WBS inside the jars to PC them. The added extra water made them expand like cooked chewy cereal. They smell good so I'm thinking they might be edible too. But I dare not try.
